my doctor did not specify how many calories or amounts of drinks or Soups I should be eating per sitting. I'm going to ask Monday but what have other doctors suggested? It's my bday today and my first Soup day but I want to be careful .

Ready,

Please share more information about yourself. How many days postop are you for instance?

You should never eat more than 1 cup per serving (8oz), however, most newly banded patients cannot consume this much at one sitting so they sip intermittently throughout the day.

Things like weight loss, calories consumed etc are not as much of a priority as healing for the first 4-6 weeks postop. Typically with the transitional diets we start at very low calories (500 cals sometimes) and gradually increase our intake as inflammation allows us. A typical average for a well established bandster on solids is 800-1200 (women) and 1000-1500 (men) depending on activity level. I only share this so that you don't over consume and if you find yourself eating near 2000 cals than you have certainly overshot the caloric range optimal for wl.

Listen to Hazel, she's very smart. She always has well thought out suggestions and solutions and has helped answer many of my questions just from my reading her responses. Sure, she totally forgot to wish you a happy bday, but brilliance has its limitations!! Good advice, Hazel! And have a big cup of birthday Soup, just ease into it and start with a clear broth, then purée some other healthy goodies in there as the days progress. Just don't rush it.... And from all of us, Happy BDay!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
