Attempting fill after 4 years

Recommended Posts

I haven't had a fill in 4 years...so I decided that I need to go to my Dr. and get one! I just had a baby 2 months ago and want to get back on track. My question is..is it possible to get a fill without a fluroscope? The past few I had the dr did the fluro with barium. They just scheduled me a regular office visit but I want to get it filled so I don't have to switch schedules with my co-worker again and make another 45 minute trip.

Every doctor is different. Ask your doctor. I don't use flouroscope for my fills. I hope it all works out for you!

My Dr. does not do the fluroscope....

I'm curious, if your band was working for all these years, what would make it not work now?

I ask because I have not had a fill in over 2-1/2 years...and I feel my band is optimally set - adjusted, and feel I will never need another fill....as long as I don't have a leak, or some medical issues....and providing I follow certain "maintenance" things.....

can the Fluid in the band dissipate with time and need to be replenished?? Something I need to ask my Dr. next time I see him....interesting.

She mentioned having a baby. Perhaps she was letting it be a bit "loose" during pregnancy. And if there's anything that can change your body it's pregnancy.

I was told it could dissipate and might would have to come back once or twice a year after green zone to have a maintenance fill but only if u see a change.

My dr told me at my last visit that it is normal for some Fluid to seep through the membrane of the band. Since it was my one year he took all the fluid out to see if there was the same amount in as we had put in. It was about 1 cc less. Now he said it isn't an exact science because the liquid could get caught in a pocket and not come out into the needle. I asked if it was something to be worried about and he said if there was an actual leak it would have NO fluid in it. It would all leak out. He put it all back plus and extra .5 cc. I am totally feeling the difference now :)

Thanks...I see my Dr. only once a year now...next visit I'll be sure to ask him to pull it all out and measure it....I don't feel as if I need a fill, but I would like to keep it at it's optimum...

Yes pregnancy will change a woman's body, I understand that....but my concern was the reason why the band would change...people talk about traveling, going to parties, holiday dinners, vacations, etc, etc, and it has been my experience that these circumstances, events may change from day to day, but the band remains constant...it does not change just because I'm on a cruise for instance....

I am interested in the fact that for 4 years everything was just fine, the band was working and did it's job, then after all those years feel a fill is needed....

Something I have yet to experience...so it's simply something I need to learn and be aware of....

Well today I had my fill in the office. I had 2 cc in my band but my Dr added .5 to it. I feel more restriction already but it's probably because of the swelling. My dr also gave me a post fill diet plan for 8 weeks. 2 weeks liquid with 2 Protein Shakes per day, 2 weeks mushy foods, 2 weeks semi soft and 2 weeks normal. Then my next fill. He said I should expect to lose 30 pounds if I follow it to the letter. Anybody else's dr put you on this post fill diet? If so what were your results?

How were your results after following the post op diet? I'm going to follow it to the letter so I can have good results. I just worry that it is not enough food but my dr knows best I guess lol. Hopefully I can keep my willpower up thru the holidays

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
