So let me start by saying that i am completely new to this. I am 23 years old with a 3 year old son. i am 5'0 weighing 198.3 with a bmi close to 39. Throughout my life ive always been the "chubby" kid. Throughout the years i didnt care of my looks/weight , until i got into highschool. I tried diet pills, injections, diet fads and exercised, but nothing seemed to work. I would lose 10 pounds but gain 15 2-3 days later. Its like i would look at a donut and gain 5 pounds, yes i said look. lol SMILE :D i am a very well reserved young lady, very laid back. I am very kind hearted, loving and very understanding. Honestly, on this forum i am looking for buddies that have gone through this experience whom i can ask any question i have doubts on. Or even newbies like me that are willing to take this journey together. A few days ago, i went into my doctors office for an annual physical exam, had some blood work done, and came back that i had problems with my thyroid. so now here i am taking these hormones to get my body going. Tommorow i have to call my doctor to pick up my referral and set up the date to go in for the seminar. I have a few questions:

1) what are the seminars like?

2) what should i expect?

3)what is the next step after the seminar?

4) just because my doctor approved, can i be denied by any other medical person (besides my insurance) ?

Thanks guys , i hope i can grow a bond with you guys on here, since you will be my new family from now on. :) take care guys. its 1:27 am here in NY GOODNIGHT -_-

The seminars are very informational the one I went to we watched a video and the directed of the seminar was banded also so I got to ask her the pros and coins of being banded. After my seminar and after I made my final decision I called my insurance and asked them exactly what they required me to do because some insurance companies are stricter than others. Afterward I scheduled my psych eval then I had to see the nutritionist and finally the surgeon before my application was sent to the insurance company. You can certainly ask me anything you like I'm not as knowledgeable as some veterans on her but I try:) I'm 21 and I was banded on 8/12. Good Luck!!!

Yes the surgeon interviewed me my primary doctor refer me at all I knew I needed help so I went right to my surgeons office! But they simply ask you questions and make sure your healthy, motivated, and informed about the surgery and what life will be like with the band. I was in an out in 30-35 minutes with my surgeons approval! Keep the questions coming I love them!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
