From one Gary to Gary, you will do fine. The eating habits you learn on the pre op will reward you after surgery. Find the things you like now, so that you can revisit them when you have those times, when the needle on the scale gets stuck.

This might be a dumb question, but on the pre-op diet since you are allowed to have as much broth as you want, do any of you think that egg drop Soup would be okay. It is mostly broth with just a little bit of egg in it. Or even buy the packet to make it and don't put the egg in it. I bought some packets of broth that are sodium free and they aren't too easy to get down.

Gary,

I work at a hospital and when it was lunchtime I AVoided the all together . We have an outdoor sitting are up by ICU and I would go up there and drink my shake. That was the only way I could do it at work ..good luck- you can do it!

Day 1 - 3 shakes and a meal. Missed 1 shake was suppose 2 have 4 shakes. Still working on the last 16oz of Water. Small headache but doing OK. Not hungry' date=' which os good.[/quote']

My preop diet was three shakes a day and Water and that was it. By the second day I had a headache and was nauseated so I just went to bed after work. The old saying goes "this too shall pass" at least there was an end in sight! It's flipping your body into a metabolic state that will aid in jump starting your eating and helping to shrink fat around your liver to make your surgery easier. Good luck-you can do it!

That's because you have dropped your carb intake significantly! Great job!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
