Lapband fail after 7 years

Recommended Posts

Had my lapband removed 3 months ago due to complications.

I had my band for 7 years and did Achieve my gaol weight. 5 of those years everything went well, the last 2 years was a living hell.

The last 2 years I found my band was so unpredictable, one day I could eat anything, the next day I could not eat at all.

I had tests done and got very few answers from the out come. I had trouble getting answers, the few I did get were, "it has to come out I can do it Friday", "the band is not for everyone", "you made me work hard as the band had bond fast to the stomach".

Before my lapband was removed my surgeon tried to sale me another one. While in hospital getting tests done, before the removal, I met a few people who are on there 2 and 3rd bands. I was really surprise.

I decided not to buy another lapband as "it's not for everyone".

A week ago today I had a gastric sleeve surgery done. My surgeon said it took twice as long as normal because the stomach was badly damaged from the lapband. Spent 4 nights in hospital. Everythings good now. I am really really happy and today being week one I have lost 5kg.

But remember "it may to not be for everyone".

Sorry you had problems. At least you are still working hard to keep the weight off. Good for you.

I'm coming up on 3 years with no problems at all....You went 5.....What happened? Did they ever say exactly? Erosion? Slippage? Or did your body just stop tolerating it...."the band just bonded to the stomach" as in adhesion?

Seriously...these are the posts I pay attention to and weigh all the information....

Thanks for your reply, but sadly I have still have no answers other than what I've posted.

I am thinking a surgeon can be held accountable these day so the less they say the better for them.

I've read on here, that we should think of lapbands like a "part" and that is it could "wear out" 'erosion" at about 5 years. that people have been on 1-3 lapbands over a course of years. with no problems. Good luck and best wishes!

Interesting, I never realised that. It's a lot to go through every 5 years.

I see your doing well, keep up the great work:-)

Well it is definitely something to be aware of...I have gotten to know my band pretty well by now, and the slightest "Quirk" makes me jumpy....the best I can do is give it a good rest at regular intervals....

The band will adhere to the stomach when it has been in there a while and when taking it out after so much time it can be a struggle for the surgeons to not damage you stomach in the process. Thankfully its only around the top and not the whole stomach

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
