I'm so happy I did this. I feel 100% back to normal since surgery 9/17. I am walking 2 miles a day and am actually satisfied on my mushy diet of 1/4th of a cup 3x a day and two Protein Shakes per day. I haven't thought about food or my next meal in 3 days and I'm eating when I feel hungry, not just because it's "lunch time". A few people have mentioned to me that I'm glowing and have such a positive happy vibe lately and it's true!! Of course I don't expect my entire journey to be this positive but this is definitely a good start :)

I am so glad to hear you are feeling 100%! I wish I could say the same. I was banded the same day as you and am still on a thin liquid diet. I'm having a hard time feeling "human" on 400-600 calories a day. To add insult to injury I'm on antibiotics for an abscess (not related to surgery) and feel super queasy all the time! Your post gave me hope though! Thanks for the boost!

Is there a reason why you are still on a thin liquid diet?? Dr.'s orders?

Any chance of adding some more Protein in?

My doctor wants me on the thin liquids the first 2 weeks then blended diet for 2 weeks and at week 5 I can start soft regular foods. I'll make it! I've been doing Protein Shakes made with almond milk and the occasional carnation instant Breakfast but afterwards I feel full for hours! I'm trying and really am happy about my decision to have the band but feel like I'm in a zombie state most of the time. I am soo ready to be me again cuz I am pretty great!

I was banded on 9/11 and I'm feeling probably 95%. I'm tired and "zombie-like" by the end of the day, but otherwise I'm great. I'm eating very mushy foods this week and next, then move onto soft foods. I'm doing pretty well with it. I never would have thought hummus tasted so delicious without it spread on something crunchy... :)

I think you are all great!

It took me some time to get back to 100% myself after surgery. Truth be told I have never gone back to myself. I have become a better more exuberant self. I like me better now then I did before and I thought I was pretty great too :)

I noticed for myself after going back to solid food, I wasn't feeling so great and my energy was getting really low. After going to the Dr. they found that my Protein levels weren't where they should be. I wasn't so hungry and I wasn't keeping the Protein intake where it needed to be.

I have since made changes and BING energy level is better!! Ameyer, I will share with you what a friend on here shared with me. There are Protein Shots by Body Fortress. They are 2.5 oz only 110 cal but they contain 26 grams of protein. They are thin watery substance fruit punch or grape flavored.

Check with your Doc of course and/or your Nutritionist, but that is what helped me. I could easily add a 2 oz vial to my diet and they helped so much.

Feel better soon! Keep us up to date.

you will definitely feel better after Mushies. My diet was 1-2 weeks of liquids but my surgeon advanced me because I was doing so well with no issues. I'm still under 600 calories though with Mushies and Protein Shakes but a big difference in energy level!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
