Feed a cold....

Recommended Posts

Well Ladies and Gent's it's here...cold and flu season!

I caught me a right nasty cold too! Sinus is clogged throat is scratchy I sound like a guy who swallowed a bull frog...chest is tight bit of a cough just miserable. I wasn't trying to catch it. It just cropped up and made it self at home!

So I'm trying to fight it with everything I got, and I wonder...what's best to feed this cold?

Starting with some tea...working my way to chicken Soup and salad for lunch...keeping Protein high..

Anyone out there in bandland have some good ideas for feeding a cold?

I'm finding I'm not so hungry...but making sure I am getting that nutrition in so it doesn't get worse.

How about Mucinex? Anyone have any experience with a cold/flu and the band?

I don't know if its over kill but a few weeks ago I got sinusitis that made me cough. My gp gave me antibiotics to make sure I didn't get a chest infection and cure the sinusitis. Hot drinks could help you sweat it out...

Thanks! No nausea, just congestion and some fatigue. I know they have liquid mucinex, I'm sure it's horrible though I wonder if it would work.

Go crazy on chewable Vitamin C, echinacea, zinc lozenges, Water and try to work up a sweat. That's my mom's home remedy and it's always worked for us - she's the homeopathic queen. She's a spry 77 year old that could run circles around folks half her age; never taken any prescription meds, never had surgery and she's smokin' hot - you'd swear she was 50 years old. Her doctor is amazed at her conditioning and wants to know where she's hiding the fountain of youth. LOL

Mucinex comes in pill form...!!!!!!!!

Oh yes I know but they are a bit large to swallow and so far I have not had any issues with pills getting stuck...I did find the blue liquid Mucinex, took that last night, rubbed Vicks vapo on chest and back and slept in a little Vicks coma last night :)

It really broke up lots of congestion, and I was able to get it out. Might be looking at a visit for the Dr. for antibiotics...looks a little more serious then just a cold :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
