Product Review: Atkins Farmhouse Sausage Scramble

Recommended Posts

Okay - another lazy day for me, thank goodness I keep frozen meals here at work with me. This morning I threw caution to the wind (having trouble tolerating eggs now) and had 1/2 container of the Atkins Farmhouse Sausage Scramble - it's good! This is the first time I've been able to eat scrambled eggs in quite a while and I was nervous about trying them, but these went down fairly well - not perfectly, but I didn't slime or PB which is definitely an accomplishment.

Two thumbs up - very flavorful, filling and I can eat the eggs!

I keep a variety of Atkins frozen meals in the freezer, including the Farmhouse Sausage Scramble. I eat only half of it, and unfortunately, it's not so good when the other half is reheated - gets dry & rubbery. But it's still a great meal when I can't seem to stomach straight eggs, or a Protein Shake :-)

I might have to check that out. Maybe good for a rare morning where I have to rush off to work and eat Breakfast at my desk. Looking at the nutritional table it is indeed low carb and yields 22g of Protein but holy smokes it lis high on everything else. 400mg of cholesterol, 29g of fat and 1030mg of sodium. I still may give it a try. Thanks

Jim - yeah, they're not the best that way, but they're tasty, and good in a pinch. They have one called Italian Sausage Primavera (something like that). It's great! But, of course, when you add Italian sausage to anything, there is going to be tons of sodium. All those frozen meals are sodium heavy. And the whole Atkins thing is high Protein, low carb, so fat will always be higher. I never eat more than half of one.

Separate it before you cook them, I do that for all of my frozen/microwave meals. Store the uncooked portion in a sealed container or a ziplock bag and it stays fresh for a long time.

Yea, I did an Atkins stint for about 19 months. I always remembered Fat, Protein good....carbs not so much. I was pretty successful with it but just not long term. Fell back to my old ways. I may give this a try though it sounds good.

I want to see your face and quote on the next product run they do for this where you're showing two thumbs up and saying, I didn't slime or PB which is definitely an accomplishment! LOL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
