overweight and sick...

Recommended Posts

I have been obese a long time and I hate it. I have a gym membership and try to eat healthy. A vegan diet. I lost 30 pounds, but still over 100 pounds overweight. If I get the surgery, which my Dr says I 'm a slam dunk case. I weight 270 and am 5'11

I don't want to die trying to.get healthy

Surgery is never an easy decision. I felt like you do. I was getting heavier and heavier and I hated looking at myself in the mirror and cringed at the thought of buying clothes. Not to mention I was short of breath when walking and tieing my shoes. I took the plunge and am happy I did. I'm down 45 lbs so far and feel a whole lot better. I'm not in the green zone yet but the weight is gradually but definitely coming off.

No body likes to be overweight but then taking decision of having a surgery is also a difficult one.but there are people on this forum who are very satisfied with their surgeries.I think you should at least take a second opinion on this from another doctor.you never know something positive may come out of it.I feel lapband is one of the most innovating idea for losing weight and avoid a number of complications.

I love my band, and would do it again if I had to. I've had many surgeries, so it wasn't a difficult decision for me, I just wish I'd done it sooner. I figured, I'm not getting any younger, and it would be more difficult to lose as I got older, plus I wanted to lose it while I was still young enough to enjoy life to the fullest. Best wishes to you :)

Statistically speaking, you have a much greater chance of dying from obesity than you from Lap Band surgery. The risk of dying from being obese far outweighs the chance of dying while trying to get healthy.

For me, there was no choice, I had to do something drastic because I didn't want to die before my time. I wanted to be around to see my future grandkids and I knew I had to lose weight and get healthy or I wouldn't.

Educate yourself on all the facts so you can make the best decision specifically for you.

Best wishes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
