Met with Dr. Fielding today at Nyu. He seems cool and relaxed. I have 3 more weigh ins but will get the band in January. Looking forward to it but nervous about the surgery and healing process.

I'm tentatively scheduled for Jan. 3rd. I did the pre-Bariatric seminar, nutritional eval & consult with my surgeon. I have one more appointment with the psychologist. Once that is all done & my PCP completes my letter of medical necessity, I should be officially approved by my insurance company. I hate that I have to wait three more months, I would like to start this journey now.

Congrats!! You in NY too! Im doing mines at NY Presbyterian, b/c my insurance is going to give me $1,000 if I do it at one their centers. I went for my 1st visit 9/5 and today met with the dietitian and went over my pre op diet plans. So now just have to get my psych evaluation and have 2 more months of dieting to do and then i get my surgery date! I'm so excited and can't wait. Glad I went on my Jamaica trip this month, I just got back and omgosh I wouldn't have went if I just was banded. So much food and drinks. Now I'm ready to start, have to do a trial run of Protein shakes the lady said to see what I like and don't. Start separating my food and drinks. Have to wait at least 30 mins after eating to drink. Good Luck with everything!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
