Lap band over gastric bypass and now had band removed!

Recommended Posts

Had my lap band removed last week. I was banded over a gastric bypass. Had complications for years, i still am unable to eat at all. 627 pounds in 2002 not i am 146! Removal was horrible. Still in pain and still can't eat or drink much of anything, tomorrow I go in to see the doctor first time after removal last Thursday. He said I would need to have my esophagus dilated and then hopefully I will be able to eat again! Haven't been able to eat in years!!!!! So frustrated still that band is gone and still no food goes down in to the stomach. I pray after the dilation it will all be better. I'm 6 ft tall and now officially ANNOREXIC! From 627 pounds in 2002 to 146 now. All I want to do is eat a regular meal! Lap band is not good after a bypass! I speak from experience, lap band in my opinion is just no good.... Too many things can go wrong. The bypass was sooooooo easy and worked well lost 300 pounds on it, I got greedy and wanted to lose it all so had the band after. MISTAKE!!! Anyway I am praying that they will be able to open up my esophagus and I will get to eat again! Doctor wants me to gain 35 pounds! Never thought I'd ever be in that position! Anybody have any questions on bypass or banding or both or removal I will share anything to help someone! Last 5 years of that band have been worst 5 years of my life. Praying for a new beginning soon!!! Please god let me be able to eat food again!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
