how do you know if you've stretched your pouch?

Pouch dilation is very tricky...typically it occur from being too tight, and eating too much on a too tight band...then after awhile....most will notice they can eat more food and think they need a fill...and sometimes with the ability to eat more food, and hunger...many experience reflux...

Over inflating the band can also dilate the pouch...

Your lap band surgeon can tell if your pouch is a bit dilated with an Upper GI...most surgeons are not really concerned with mild dilation since this can be treated...and managed with unfilling the band, and you can also help too..by watching your portion sizes when filled tightly and avoiding vomiting...

if in doubt, go to your dr and let them tell you if it is or not...agree with mis

as we can imagine all sorts of things by reading the world wide web...

What is five-day pouch test? I am pre-band -- know nothing -- but keep reading about this.

how do you know if you've stretched your pouch?

Hi Donna,

As mentioned above, your doctor can EASILY see this, provided he uses fluoro/Upper GI while making an adjustment...or even just a simple barium swallow, if you don't need an adjustment. Good advice from Mis and CG....just ask for it. I do every time I visit my surgeon...I've even posted the videos of it on here. I wish all surgeons did this, from my experience.

I don't understand how ANYONE can live with a dilated pouch for over 6 years, as well as a dilated esophagus, claims to have educated the masses, including surgeons, and "has seen it all".... thinks this is tricky....... Nothing "tricky" to it.

CG beautiful pic of you by the way!

Here's the thing...my surgeon took 1cc out of me about 6 weeks ago because I was severely stuck on a bagel ok maybe 4 weeks ago and then my piece of bagel passed. Went back in about 2 weeks ago and he put .5cc in so I'm not quite up to where I was and I'm constantly hungry and eating more than a cup of food and gaining, I've gained 3 lbs in the last 7 days. I called and tried to get in but he is out of the office and I was told I would have to wait till the 10th till my appt for a fill. ugh. I did recently move over the weekend and have been super duper busy packing and unpacking and therefore not preparing food at home and eating out, not making good choices which I know can play a factor in gaining but I am constantly hungry about every 3 hrs and 1 cup just isn't getting it for me....thats why I asked. any help from you guys now you know the story????

thanks for ur help.

Donna

Donna,

My weight changes by more than three pounds almost every day throughout the day ... sometimes like 6-8 pounds, depending on what I'm doing. I'd suggest you not worry so much about the small flucuations in your weight....but look at why, in your opinion, you're constantly hungry. Were you less hungry at your previous adjustment level? Were you eating less to feel satisfied? Maybe that was where you will get back to, when you see your surgeon in a couple of weeks.... but don't get to worked up over a pound or two here or there.

Think long term, lifestyle changes....months/years/decades! Best wishes! :)

Speaking for myself...I can tell, when My portions get larger with less problem eating....Like NaNa said...more food and hunger......it is then I will go all liquids for a few days. For me, it does the trick and I consider it routine maintenance.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
