7 days post-op and HUNGRY!

Recommended Posts

Calorie intake post op is usually pretty low I was doing 300 to 400 calories a day for about 2 weeks. As you heal your appetite will increase so enjoy the weight loss as your body finds it easier to use it's reserves than to digest real food. Just make sure you're getting plenty of Protein so your body doesn't start using itself to get that particular nutrient and don't be surprised/depressed when your appetite returns and the weight loss slows down again.

This makes me feel much better. I'm at the two week mark today (yay!) and I'm struggling to hit 500 calories. I eat my little servings of mushy Proteins and I'm trying to add in fruits and veggies (even smaller portions of mushy) and I struggle. I'm not hungry really except in the morning when I first get up. I am working really hard to get my Protein in before anything else and I'm hitting my goals there. I'm just tired. But, my strength is coming back everyday :)

My hunger kicked in on day 10 and it came back with a vengeance! I can truly say that I know what hunger feels like, I will get so hungry that my stomach actually hurts. I try to drink my Protein Water a little all day long to keep something in me. I'm on the mushies and they do not keep me satisfied for very long at all, so I try to drink water in between and just try to wait it out a little before I eat again. I certainly could eat more but I'm trying to get my "head" in the mode preparing for my first fill. Hang in there, we can do this!

I am 9 days out and haven't felt hungry except mental hunger. Last night my daughter had a chocolate bar and it was Calling to me. I feel tight on my abdomen so the thought of eating and adding to that tightness is a deterrent . Since preop I've lost 19 lbs. but considering my low calories I've not lost that much since surgery(6 lbs). I've been tired and uncomfortably sore. I sleep great though! Hardly any gas issues either.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
