My surgery is in 9 hours...sooo nervous!!

Recommended Posts

Im having my surgery done in exactly 9 hours! Im excited and scared all at the same time. Ive been emotional because I know its going to be a huge lifestyle change(in a good way). I just need to sleep but I cant!! I need some reassurance that everything will be fine! Also I have never had surgery before (im only 21) so as weird as it sounds my biggest fear is waking up in the middle of it! (I watch too much greys anatomy) has anyone else had these feelings? Please tell me im not crazy!

You'll be just fine! I too have a huge fear of waking during surgery, but I always discuss it with the anesthesiologist before the surgery (they'll come in and talk to you about what kind of anesthesia you'll have for your 'nap'). Talking to them about it always makes me feel better.

Try to relax, get some sleep, and In just a few hours you'll be on your way to a brand new you!

You will do great!! I would say try to get sleep, but I know that's hard - I just had surgery on Friday & remember laying awake for most of the night due to anticipation. It will be over before you know it and then on to awesome things for yourself!! Remember to deep breath, cough & lots of walking to help the gas escape. Good luck tomorrow, let us know how it goes

Hi Micki -- congratulations! By the time you read this you'll probably be walking up and down the hallways and thinking about what movies you're going to watch over the next few days. Wishing you a smooth recovery and lots of good wishes for this new chapter in our life. So happy for you. I can't wait to get banded!

lol Hi and yes you watch too much Grey's Anatomy lol. I'm an RN and just wanted you to know that you have a dedicated anesthesiologist at the head of the table monitoring your vitals and YOU :) during the entire operation. Sedatives are given per body weight recommended doses but there is alot of wiggle room to add more if the patient is not properly sedated. There are many subtle signs to alert an anest. well before you wake up. The second thing is that the lapband procedure is a relatively short procedure as well and even further reduces any chances of you awakening :)

Not to undermine the risks of ANY surgery, but this as routine as it gets. And although it is completely normal to have anxiety (especially if you are young or if this is your first surgery etc) but be reassured that you are going to do just fine. Just reinforcing the positive thoughts you are telling yourself and how much your life is going to change for the better in T-9hrs :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
