Why can't I lose!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I don't know if I am doing something wrong or not.

I have a 10 cc band with 5.5 in it. I was banded Feb. 6, 06, and have lost about 34 lbs. With this last fill, the only problem I have is that if I don't chew well enough, or take small bites, it kind of hurts going down. But once I get passed that, I still can eat too much. I've been told that with the lap band tool you shouldn't have to really be "dieting" that with proper restriction you should be full.

Does anyone have any suggestions for jumpstarting the weight loss? Should I have more of a fill?

Any questions or comments would be greatly appreciated!!! :help:

Also, does anyone reccommend eating lean cuisines, or just small portions of whatever the rest of the family is eating?

I'm sorry, I'm new here so I really don't know what to tell you. But I am just wanting to read responses. I wish you luck and I hope someone helps you.

You've been banded for 3 months and have lost over 30 lbs. I was told to expect 1 to 2 lbs a week, but 1/2 lb a week isn't uncommon for many bandsters. You're doing a great job! If your weight loss is steady, I would hold off on the fill. Being too tight can be a nightmare (trust me - I know).

Personally, I eat a small portion of whatever the family is eating because that's usually healthier than a Lean Cuisine. I will have them occasionally for lunch though.

Chew more and wait between bites and that flaming golfball feeling won't happen. 5cc in a 10cc band is still relatively loose but your continued weight loss - 30 pounds is great - says you don't need another fill yet.

I'm not a doctor so this is just my opinion, but if I were you, I'd try eating small portions of what the family is eating - unless it's something you KNOW won't got down well, chewing better, and giving yourself only 30 minutes to eat. After the 30 minutes get up from the table and do something to change your focus - something you enjoy that will distract you from eating. If you're still hungry after 20 minutes or so, go ahead and eat a little bit more. Just make sure you're not having another whole meal. The idea is to be satisfied, not to feel FULL. It's a whole new concept for most of us but that's the way it works best.

Good luck on your weight loss journey. Keep in touch and let us know how you're doing.

P.S. It takes some people SEVERAL fills before they find 'the sweet spot'. You'll get there.

just drink your Water, drink your water, drink your water, and make good choices, and move your body at least 30 miutes a day. Oh, and drink your water. These are the goals to weight loss. But it sounds to me like you are doing great! over 30 pounds in 3 months is fabulous! That is right on schedule. How much were you expecting to lose, and did you hear this from a RNY group or Doctor? Other weight loss surgeries make you lose weight quicker, but they also have all the complications that made you choose the lap band. This "tool" will help you to make the right choices for the rest of your life.

You are doing great! I have to count calories, Protein grams, and fibers to get the results I want. Too little I don't lose, too much I don't lose. I do agree that you should serve yourself and your family the same thing. Just alter the recipe to be healthier and eat yours on a small plate. Keep up the good work.

Oops - posted in the wrong place. But I agree with maryb - alter the recipe so your family benefits too!

And now we return you to your regularly scheduled thread. :nervous

34 Lbs since Feb is fantastic weight loss. It really can be slow with the band but its much much MUCH healthier for your body and for your mind. I'm really losing like 1/2 - 1 lb a week now and I do feel a bit impatient with it but I have a lifestyle I enjoy and that I can maintain and I never ever thought I'd be able to do that and lose weight at the same time.

You've lost so fast so recently that it may also be that your body just needs to catch up a little bit. I strongly recommend taking your measurements weekly so that you can see your body changing shape, even if the scale isn't moving the way that you want it to.

Also keep in mind that the average weight loss is 1 to 2 lbs per week on average, and the average includes the quick drop after surgery, and there are probably going to be some times that you stall out for a bit and have to kick it up a little.

Hi. I was banded 2/14/06 and am stuck at the 30lb loss for over 2 weeks. I am eating small amounts but sometimes the darn food gets stuck and I make myself throw it up because of the pain! I am happy with the loss, just wish it was more. I eat so little why don't I lose more??? I am not exercising yet...I just joined a new gym that has yet to open. I am a pre-k teacher and on the move all day with the kids but not walking or exercising regularly. I know exactly how you feel...

I don't understand why we only lose 1-2 lbs a week when we eat soooo little. I only had one fill and don't want another one!! I still have things get stuck so I think that one fill was enough for me.

todays wt 236

I can understand why I dont lose more than 1lb a week - I eat too much to lose more than that and I'm happy that way.

perhaps its easy for me to say because I have less than 40lb to go to my goal, so I'm losing slowly anyway, but 1 lb a week sure adds up - I'll be at goal round the end of the year at this rate.

I'm happy because 1) I dont have to be filled too tight to achieve this, 2) I get to enjoy my food within reasonable limits and 3) its healthier anyway. My tummy is now smooth and relatively flat.

I really dont believe the human body is designed to healthily lose weight at a faster rate and I think people in general just expect too much. It would be so nice to be down 10lb every month but its not a sustainable lifestyle to make that happen. I take the view that any loss is a good loss.

Exercise will help you though - a lot.

and not how much? I haven't been banded yet (June 8th). I think the amount you are losing is fantastic, I'm hoping that I will be consistent with a 1 - 2 pound loss per week but I also know that it depends on me too, not just the band, to be successful. I can only speak for myself, in your situation I would keep a food diary of what I eat and how much and then show it to the nutritionist / dietician where you get your fills done or other professional who can help advise.

From all the research I have done prior to booking my appt it is clear that you still have to watch what you eat and that not just small portions is the answer. Only you, your hard work and attention to what you are doing will determine how successful your weight loss will be.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

Carol

yep I have an idea, listen to what the band is telling you , eat slow, eat right, and exercise, this is the combination that will make you a winner not a winer

Jack, Your post was just what I needed today, I'm up and down 1 pound over and over for the past 3 weeks. It's not about the pound, is it? It's about the process, the retraining for a healthy attitude towards food...and body image. I often learn from you. Thank you.

Michmouse, I was banded 3 days before you and have lost 33 lbs., we are doing very well. Why are we pushing ourselves so hard...we have the rest of our lives to enjoy our new body, so let's take some time to get to know it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
