I am debating whether or not to start my pre op diet early. I don't have to start until 10/3/13 however; I might start this Thursday instead. I only am required to lose 5 lbs before surgery but I want to start early to make sure that I stay on track.

Pre op diet started yesterday one day earlier (I previously calculated my start date incorrectly). Yesterday was rough with a headache by the end of my 12 hour shift and a massive mood swing with uncalled for over reaction to an action of my spouse did that caused me to yell in front of our children about things they don't need to know about. Followed by him calling me out in it later and calling me a name. Today was a much better day no emotional outbursts and no headache.

A 12-hour shift on first day of a pre-op diet sounds rough -- then going home to spouse and kids. Geez! Glad you had a better day today with no headache. Take it easy -- I can tell you have a good sense if humor, which definitely comes in handy at times like these. Dr. Ache? That's a good one! She sounds pretty great (read your profile).

I was a raving lunatic for the for few days and I understand working 12 hour shifts since I work on an Ambulance & in a busy ER. Worst part was watching & smelling my partners eat yummy food. I promise it will get easier, the headaches decrease & you get into a groove with the shakes. I'm saying you will like it, but it's get more doable. I did announce daily that I desired a taco ... But didn't give into the craving. I'm now 1 week post-op, it will fly by faster than you know it

Congrats on starting your journey. I start my pre op diet on Oct 8th. Where did you buy your Protein Shakes? I've heard of the Unjury shakes and Soup, but don't know where to find them.

I am a day behind you. My surgery is Oct 18. I am on day 7 of pre-op diet, and it is getting a bit easier each day. I hope you can get a chance to rest some. I have noticed my energy runs out a lot quicker than usual. Hang in there - we will make it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
