I need to start exercising.. im almost 4 months post OP. I know I need to start exercising, I even have an elliptical machine staring at me in the front room of my house.

I just have not started exercise yet. I walk some at work during lunch time, but not on a regular basis.

I use my exercise time as "my time" and I really enjoy my time I get an hr to an hr and a half in daily. The key is finding something (or somethingS) u enjoy and doimg it... good luck:-)

I use my treadmill every morning. I watch all my trashy reality programs that my husband refuses to watch with me at night. It makes the time fly by and I actually look forward to exercising.

When starting to exercise the thing to focus on is building a habit. Ignore anybody (including yourself) who says it's not worth exercising if you can't workout for at least X minutes. I started with 5 minutes of walking post surgery. 5 minutes was easy I could do that just walking around my house before getting in the shower. I did that for 5 days.

Then I walked 6 minutes for 6 days. That was easy it was just an extra minute.

The 7 minutes for 7 days.

I now run over 2 miles in the morning I've been running 28 minutes every morning for the last 24 days. In 4 more days I'll set my goal to be 29 minutes for the next 29 days. It's easy to add just 1 more minute especially if you pace how quickly you ramp up.

In the past my problem was it was easy to convince myself I don't have time for a 30 minute workout but by focusing on the habit my schedule has just naturally shifted a little but at a time. My showers are quicker, I get dressed faster, and I wake up just a few minutes earlier than I did a year ago.

The best marketing slogan out there is really the best way....JUST DO IT! I am not a big Nike supporter, but hey lace those suckers up (I'm a Sketchers Memory Foam fan myself) and get movin.

I am the Queen of excuses, and I live in my own little country as do all my fellow Kings and Queens on this site. We have all got the excuses down pat.

There are days I don't wanna...I don't wanna.... I don't wanna!!!!

I have a million and one at any given time ready to fire away and do my self in. So I just yell at myself. (in my head but sometimes out loud too) Just do it Lisa!

Most of the time that gets me motivated enough to get up and get going.

So my friend...Just do it!

I totally agree I'm 2.5 months post Op n would find every excuse in the book. I started walking just for five minutes.. Get up early to exercise clearly that WAS crazy talk !!! Well now I get up at 430 am2 x a week to go to spinn class... Wake up at 5 am the other 3 work days to Shaun t focus 25 n at 7 on sat n Sunday to spin at 830.. I work a 11 hour day 4x a week n regular 6.5 hr day in Friday And the scale n my baggy clothes are proof... I just invested in a fitbit flex n a heart rate monitor ... I don't kno what clicked but I started slow and it clicked most importantly I put me first and everything else clicked into place..u just gotta try ...

Try this 3 mins on elliptical tomorrow n report back to us :)

Frederic and others are spot on! Here's a quote from an article I read some time back and posted a link to....I've found it helpful and motivating. "You just do it"... One step at a time.

"Einstein didn't think he was intelligent, because as his intellect expanded so did his ability to comprehend how much there is to know. Exercise works the same way. As you become fit, you become more aware of higher standards of fitness. Identifying yourself in the scale of being fit can be the cause of depression that will cause you to quit. You must not think about a future state of fitness you want to obtain. You must only think of physical motion in the moment. You must develop sets of physical motion without setting a goal of obtainment. You just do it as a ritual. You don't think about the time involved. You don't become over exhilarated. You just do it."

I didnt like the thought of exercising either when I first started. Now I look forward to it. Esecially the feeling I have after I exercise. I like the thought of ramping it up every week. My doc told me today to change your pattern up a little each week to keep you body guessing therefore losing.

Is that beautiful dog in your profile picture yours? I don't do a ton of exercise, but what I DO do, is walk my dog through these hills a good 5 days a week. Before I dropped a significant amount of weight, I'd drive to a flatter area, because I didn't have the stamina for the hills. I used to take her to the dog park, where I'd throw the ball, sit on my ass & talk to people. I rarely go anymore. I found a small park close to my house, so I still play ball with her (so she runs like crazy), and then we walk the hills. She's happy, and I'm healthier. A win win for all!

ANYWAY, maybe start by doing something as simple as walking your dog? You will be surprised how quickly you build stamina, and it will make a big difference on the scale :)

what motivated me *to begin to exercise* was me not being able to walk hardly....so for me to help the band, i just walked as much, as far as i could....i didnt let it define me or stare at a piece exercise equipment and wonder when i will do it...if i was going to lose weight, i had to make the decision to do it..

just get out and walk...do 5 min a day

but do it...the more you put off, the more you wont do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
