Running a half?

So I've recently been th king of run ing the P.F. Chang's half marathon. I have a couple 5k's coming up and am also thinking about the 12K's of Christmas. Am I C-R-A-Z-Y? I think so...

I finally made it to the 180's making me 35 lbs down. Woo-hoo!

You can do it! I just ran my 4th half marathon last weekend. It's hard, but worth it! Good luck. I used a beginner training program I found online. It helps you get up to the right mileage for race day.

You are definitely not crazy! I just ran my third half marathon on Labor day weekend in Virginia Beach. I sign up for them knowing that it somewhat keeps me disciplined and on track. I know that I have to eat right and keep up a good training routine to be able to make the run. Without having a goal to work towards, I would fall off the wagon too easily. Good luck with your run! You will do great!

Hey, can I ask what do you eat on the morning of the race? I'm usually tighter in the mornings and sometimes it's hard to eat everything I need to eat before the race.

I have done a 1/2 marathon, several sprint triathlons and just last month did my 1st half ironman 70.3

I also have lots of trouble eating in the morning.

I tend to stick with coffee (ice or hot dependiong upon weather). I will also "try" a banana eaten slowly or a couple of spoonfuls of Peanut Butter also slowly.

On your training runs I would highly suggest experimenting with energy gels and chews. HammerGel, GU, shot blocks, gatorade chews etc..

Any real running store or bike shop will have a big nutrition section. It is very important to experiment before race day as each person is differnet in how they react with them digestion wise. Flavor is important as well. Some are good and some are gross!

On race day dont worry about low calories. You need calories for a 1/2 marathon.

I personally never found the carbo loading thing to benefit which is good cause that isnt good anytime of day for me. :)

For 5-10K I dont think any special nutrition is needed on race day. The most important thing to remember is experiment before the race and NOTHING NEW ON RACE DAY.

You only run your "first" 1/2 marathon once so remember to have fun!!

It's addictive....I'm 61 and cannot get enough!

I run every morning on a empty stomach...other than coffee, Water and some Vitamin and Omega supplements...

But I'm only doing 5 miles as part of a full workout with weights, etc, not a competition thing...

I'll have a high Protein recovery shake after my workout, as opposed to pigging out....

If I'm running a 10k or less, I'm ok with Water and no Breakfast. I sometimes eat the power bar or clif block gummies. If I'm going farther like a half marathon (13.1 mile), then I need to wake up earlier to try to get some food in. There is no way I could run for 2+ hours on an empty stomach. One time I was too tight in the morn and couldn't really eat....I felt horrible at mile 7 (with 6 more to go yikes!) I learned my lesson.

This may be a silly question, but is there a good web site to find 5k races? I am looking into doing one early next year and would prefer that it is a chipped race...and I would be lying if I said I didn't want a medal, lol.

I am a little over 2 years post op, yesterday I ran my first half marathon in 2:37. I have run many 5ks some 10ks and 5milers. My suggestion to you is stop thinking its a bad idea. You want to do it, therefor you will! Sign up, research, and train! Use hills and read books. And don't give up! I couldn't even walk up a flight of stairs or from one telephone pole to the next without pain, breathing issues and exhaustion. -100lbs later and @ 205lbs I am a runner. It's hard work but I think yesterday was one of my proudest moments. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything. Run girl! RUN!

As far as nutrition I have a Nutra Bullet and make a shake of yogurt almond milk oatmeal berries banana greens nuts and flaxseeds sometimes nut butter and an expresso shot. Ice and a little Water to thin it out and I am good for 5 or 6 miles. It takes me about an hour to drink it all as it is a big shake. I also use fuel gels every 3 or so miles threw my runs or when I feel zapped or hungry. I wear a fuel belt so I can carry my fuel & water, even on short runs. These are things u can work threw as you train. Go for it! Make sure you go to a running store and get fitted for proper shoes.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life.       Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
