In 2 weeks you could look like this!

I got the Lap Band 2 weeks ago (9-6-2013) and got tearing and infection in the incision. I'm back on an antibiotic for 10 days and have been back to True Results of Scottsdale twice to have a nurse clean out the wounds. Even the "small" incisions have oozing. Sorry that looks awful...but sorry again...MOST lap banders do not look like this after lap band surgery.

I've heard some bad things over the years about "True Results" on other forums, I have no clue about it, but it's been in a heated debate on other forums about Band surgeons being incompetent to very poor aftercare.

Ideally when you have band surgery, the surgeon put sterilized steri strips on the incisions and if the surgery is done in a very sterilized clean environment many people do not get infections any more...and patients SHOULD NOT REMOVE the steri strips...they should allow them to fall off..and not really touch them and shower only and keep Water from hitting the incisions....and pat the area clean dry or use a blow dryer and keep the stomach area VERY CLEAN and dry....

a great example to anyone reading this thread that its vital to remain

on the lookout for any pain/infection with the band or port......its major surgery

this doesnt happen in all cases but some...the best way to make sure this and things like this dont happen is to be watchful of your body and follow the dr's rules

i feel bad for this poster and sure hope you get better...i feel bad for you just looking at the pic

Or in two weeks you could be on your way to a healthier life.... broad statements like this can scare people into deciding they don't want surgery.. maybe that is the point.. I don't know but all surgeries have the possibility of infections.. apparently something was done wrong... I had my surgery in January, followed all the pre-op and post-op instructions... did not touch my incisions, let the Dr. take the steri strips off and was careful about showering ... so two weeks post op I felt good and was losing weight ..Hopefully the poster will be healed soon and in a better place.. .

Even following all my doctors orders I also had an infection in my port incision that lasted 2 months until it finally healed. It took 3 antibiotics for it to clear. It happens, you just got to accept it and deal with it. Even it hurts like hell. In time it will get better. Just make sure to take your antibiotics everyday because if the infection reaches your port it will have to be removed (according to my doctor). I am allergic to adhesive so on top of my infection my stomach was angry and red from the Tegaderm and paper tape

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
