I feel very lucky to be having surgery on Oct. 2.

Recommended Posts

A lot of you had to go through so much and I guess that's normal?

My insurance required 3 months of a doctor guided diet and that was it. In fact, I only followed it for 2 months, adapting myself to the Atkins diet an taking Adipex, and then went in for my third appointment, and was told to turn in my paperwork. Insurance approved me only a few days later.

On Tuesday I sign consent forms but I'm already scheduled for surgery on Oct. 2nd.

I never had a sleep study or psychological exam or any of that stuff.

I met with my doctor once, went through the doctor guided diet program, and will meet with my doctor again before surgery. I'm already on my 3rd day Pre-Op diet, which is 4 Protein Shakes a day.

Did anybody else have a simpler Pre-Op process or am I just extremely lucky?

I'm sorry all of you had to go through so much, but I'm really happy so many of you are so far into your journeys and I'm getting a lot of inspiration from you guys! You've made it through so much that I can make it through this too, you know?

i think it is great that you had an easy process. For me, my process was pretty fast, but i learned a lot still along the way. Even though you are going thru a fast process, i hope for you that there is a lot of followup care. deb

Shhhhhh...don't jinx yourself! My process was super quick, too and I thought I was out of the woods after I got my preop instructions, but lo and behold my surgeon had me going for a sleep study 3 days before my surgery. LOL Thankfully it had no bearing on my scheduled surgery, he simply wanted to know if I had sleep apnea - it wasn't even required by insurance.

I don't think a Psych eval should be avoided though, I definitely think it has it's place in this process. But as long as you have a decent support system and follow doctor's orders you'll be fine. Good luck, I hope you come to find that it was the best thing you could have done for yourself...I know I do!

There is a lot of follow up care.

I'm not sure if they're going to require a sleep study or not, but I'm positive I do not have sleep apnea. I sleep in the same room with my friend Michelle, and sometimes she's awake while I sleep and she's never noticed me having trouble breathing or anything like that. :) I do have a bit of insomnia sometimes though, but I think that's because I have minor anxiety sometimes.

Congrats to you!! I'm happy it was easy for you! I had to do the 6 months of classes, and diet, and a psych eval, but it went by so fast! And I really think I mentally needed that time to prepare. I didn't have to have a sleep study though. Good luck to you! Oct. 1st will be here before you know it!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
