kim2bhealthy 3 Posted May 16, 2006 Hello! I was wondering if anyone was sent home with a "Reliefband" for nausea after banding? :success1: My surgeon places one around the wrist to help prevent the feelings of nausea. They say that nausea has been found to originate from the fingertips. The Reliefband is about the shape and size of a wristwatch. It is placed around your wrist to send painless electrical signals to the nerves in the wrist, which wil stop the transmission of nausea feelings to the brain. I think they said that it would last about 7 days. My surgeons office says that they have had excellent response from patients who are sent home with them.. Anyone have one? If so, did it help? I guess I'll find out if it works on the 26th!
nightingale2u 42 Posted May 16, 2006 Hi Kim... I don't think many people have nausea past the immediate post-op period??? I wonder what the cost of this "band" is and if there is scientific studies on how effective it is? I know I really sick after surgery but as soon as the anesthesia was out of my body I felt totally fine... not another moment of nausea. In all fairness the medications given to me for nausea did not help and I imagine I would have been completely happy to try ANYTHING at that point even if it would have meant a band around my butt. Jachut 487 Posted May 17, 2006 I used "seabands" during my pregnancy with Eliza, she was the only one who gave me vile morning sickness, that awful relentless nausea but no vomiting kind of morning sickness. They were brilliant, sound like the same deal, a band that put pressure on a point in your wrists, and are usually used for motion sickness, to me morning sickness always felt exactly the same as being carsick or sea sick. They really did help me get through the first four months, but it might have been a psychological dependence because lots of my friends say they did nothing for them. maryb 1 Posted May 17, 2006 Seabands doesn't work for me. Dramimine, and those Patches behind the ear dope me up and make me sleepy. Never heard of the Reliefband. Pfinagrin (spelling bad) works and so does Ginger Capsules for me without the side effects.
Morsaille 4 Posted May 17, 2006 I am a ginger lover, I kept raw slices of fresh root with me wherever I went during my early pregnancy and for the nauseous times post banding. I would just suck on one. Ginger tea is great too, just boil your slices. Here's one I learned from donating blood. Pull your knees up. This works better for light-headed nausea however. omamoon 0 Posted May 17, 2006 My daughter uses this type of wrist band for her nausea and has for years. She swears by them.
Stitchy 0 Posted May 17, 2006 They put a patch behind my ear before I left (out-patient). Don't know whether or not that did the trick, but I had no nausea.
TOBIN 0 Posted October 15, 2008 My doctor gave me the Reliefband after my surgery, its not a "band" but a electrical stimulation medical device and for post operative nausea and vomiting and it requires a precription from my Doc... Its made by Abbott Labs and he told me he uses it on all his baratric and lapband patients and its been best thing he has seen....plus it been fully tested, with clinicaly validated and FDA Approved to eliminate Nausea and Vominting (((mine was serious!!).. But best part was I only had to turn on device when i got sick and it eliminated my nausea almost immeadiatly... did not have to take durgs for releif and was able to drink and even eat a little... Amazingly it even worked for my wife!....she was pregnant and had bad morning sickness for almost 3 weeks....I let her try it and she would not give the device back to me!...We had to have my doctor write another prescription for me:tongue2: (she had tried everything, Zofran, those cheap pressure bands, ginger ..you name it, and nothing had worked)
