June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Just a quick note so say I made it through. I'm still at the hospital, hoping to be released today. I have a little port pain, but when they give me pain meds, its makes me naseous. I wish my view was like Beechee's. I have a lovely view of Tijuana! Mainly the costco outside my window. HA! There are 4 others here with me- 3 men, 1 woman. I even drove across the border! Well...that's all for now. Thanks for your prayers and good thoughts.

I think each of us will have some kind of weird pain or twitch as a result. Mine is on my right side just below the breast. I don't know exactly where my port is. That may sound funny, but I just don't know for sure. Nurse couldn't exactly find it either. Hopefully at the fill someone will be able to find it fast.

I had my first meal at a restaurant last night. I must say I was really nervous. We went Mexican so I had queso and salsa, refried Beans, and part of one enchillata. My DH didn't eat much either. I think he was nervous for me. I find the hardest part not to drink anything, but I did real good.

Glad I only have a little over a week before a fill. I am really hungry and I think that will keep me in control. Right now its just will power.

Hope everyone is doing well and the last of the June bandsters will get banded today. Yeah!!!!

Hey all, just a note -

I seem to notice with me that my weight loss slows considerably when I don't get my fluids. If you are experiencing a slow weight loss or even a gain while in the liquid phase, you may want to look at your Water intake. Doctors have pointed out that that other fluids - juices, tea, coffee, etc. are NOT Water. Things such as Propel, Gatorade and similar products are water and serve the same purpose.

Since yesterday, I only lost a pound when I have been averaging 2 pounds a day for the last days. The only thing I did different was add about 2 cups of non-fat yogurt (since yesterday was the day to add them), but my Fluid intake dropped to 32 oz, 12 oz of juice, and 6 oz of gatorade. So I shorted myself by 32 oz at a minimum, and I didn't lose the extra pound.

Today I'm going to put it to the test by making sure I get my water in. Although a pound is not bad - I'm at Day # 9 and have lost 23 lbs. A pound a day means 30 lbs a month. WoW! Still great!

Wow. I can't believe the month is almost over. Do we know officially how many June Bandsters we have? Bet it is way over 50. So glad everyone is doing well.

I am still on mushies, but have cheated a bit testing things out. I can eat chips if I chew them to mush, and have tried a pop tart. But pizza is the kiss of death. Now, I know these things are not good for me, but thought they would be easier to chew, chew, chew than bread or other things, and I stop and wait. Still can not do eggs.

I can still eat a can of Soup at a time, so I am ready for my fill. July 11th will come soon enough. Then I hope the scale will start moving again.

Good luck to all of the June Bandster Babies! And keep up the good fight!

Poodles, remember even with a fill and perfect restriction, liquids, like Soup, will always go right through to the lower stomach. So you will always be able to eat large quantites of them post fills. We'll always have to self moderate when it comes to liquids, Soups, milk shakes, ice cream and chocolate... all liquid in the stomach slip right past the band!

It's amazing the differences in what we can tolerate, I'm supposed to be doing mushies too, but have added eggs, as they go right down easy for me! I've read a few people can't do eggs, and people can. It will neat to see once on solids and with proper restriction what we all can and can't eat. nervous about it.

XO

Leila

Leila: That is so true. I still wonder how I will know if I need a fill on the 11th? I am not suppose to eat solids until after that. They are going to do it under floro so they can tell that I guess.

Fills should be a huge topic for July! Can not wait for mine. Hoping that it will feel kind of like what it did when I was swollen. I couldn't eat much then... even liquids.

You are all doing so good, and loosing weight so rapidly. It's hard for me to tell just exactly what I have lost, the scale at the hospital showed quite a bit less than mine, and the doctors office shows more. I thinks the loss is somewhere between 12 and 15 lbs. since surgery on the 15th. I thought it would be more. At least I'm able to reach places I wasn't before, so that's a good sign. Not scheduled for a fill until July 26, so will listen to all your posts until then. QUESTION: those of you having surgery in Mexico....where do you go for fills? US local Dr? or back to Mexico? I go to Mexico for a rhumatologist, and almost went there to get banded, but decided because of the visits, I'd better stick close to home.

Help! I stood up today and felt this burning in my lower left part of my belly, about 2 inches and to the left of my largest incision. I wasn't doing anythig strenuous...just stood up. The area still hurts. Has anyone had this happen? Do you think I pulled one of the stiches on my port? I have been extra careful the rest of the day to use my legs to stand up!

I'm going to mexico, but I've set up fills with a doctor more locally (still 71 miles away...) just in case I get filled too tight, etc and need some quick intervention! I work in an ER so I figure if something superbad happens, I"m already in the right spot for that....

Socalgal,

I worry about the nausea too. I don't want to be queasy for the rest of my life. Did anyone's doc prescribe some phenergan?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
