June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Hi, June 2006 Band Crew:

I am scheduled for surgery on 6/22 at Baylor/Dallas. My Dr. did not put me on a pre-op diet, but I have voluntarily started liquids, Soups, and sugar-free drinks.< /p>

I am so thankful for this thread (and LBT) for all of the support and information. I am excited, but anxious, since my Mom and daughter don't have a clue about the life changes that are coming. They just figure if I researched it, it must be okay.

Keep on writing; I'll keep on reading and learning! God Bless you:)

Hi Cindy --

Sorry to hear about your first sliming episode. I am so terrified of that. I'm trying to be so careful. But I know that it is destined to happen to all bandsters :faint: .

I am so happy to report that my gas in the left shoulder has subsided. Woohoooo!!!! I can not tell you how relieved I am (no pun intended).

How are all the early month bandsters doing?

Wow Cindy, sounds like an unpleasant chili experience! I hope you're feeling okay, take it easy on your stomach for a couple of days, maybe go back to liquids? Or whatever your doc recommends after getting stuck. My Doc has chili on his list of foods people may not be able to tolerate. I'm still on liquids for another week and a bit before I get to mushies, then soft foods, and then solid foods - so solids are still about 4-5 weeks away for me, but I'm nervous about the whole PB thing, hoping to avoid it! Take care!

XO

Leila

Good luck to all those getting banded this week.:clap2: Remember, it may seem rough in the beginning for some but it gets much easier as the time passes. You will feel a lot better in a couple of weeks.

I want to thank you all for posting your experiences! I am due to report to the surgicenter at 6:30am tomorrow. I am ready, just starting to feel nervous a bit, a few flashes of 'what the heck have I gotten myself into?!?!' LOL!

I'll share my experience in a few days! Good Luck to all...

Happy Monday Morning. I've been out of touch a little these last few days. I've been reading but not posting.

On day 5 post-op I was getting a little stir crazy and somewhat depressed. My husband decided to take me to our favorite casino in Lake Charles, LA. We checked in Wednesday and came home Saturday night. It was great for me. It got me out and moving. I didn't have access to the exact foods that I am suppose to have but between the buffet and all the other restaurants I did ok. I ate a lot of foods sooner than my diet schedule allows. I didn't have any problems and I am surprised. I know that Dr. Spivak doesn't fill your band until a month and I hope that comes soon.

Like many others here have said, "I am not feeling any restrictions at all". I'm not eating enough volume to hurt myself but my weight loss has definitely subsided. I have lost 14 pounds but nothing in the last few days. I am trying to get back on track this morning. I'm going back to my Protein drink.

Good luck to all those getting banded this week.

Hello to a rainy, rainy, Monday morning in Houston. All my careful plans on returning to work were scraped. I had to take the bus which makes me walk about 6 blks. Lucky we have a tunnel system in Houston. I then had to go up a flight of stairs. I was carrying my briefcase, my liquids, and a umbrella. I made it here without much pain so now hopefully I will be able to return home tonight.

I go to doctor tomorrow for my 1 week check. I'm still on liquids getting ready to move into thicker liquids. I made some watered down potato Soup yesterday and it was sure good. I puree the potatoes, leeks, and carrorts, and used non fat milk instead of cream to thicken. It was good and I was glad to get a little something in me that was substanial. One more week of liquids before mushies.

I must say I really have had it easy. A little left shoulder discomfort that the heating pad takes care of. A little hard to turn over in bed. Other than that. Nothing. I am so thankful.

Hope all of you have speedy recoveries. Sorry to hear about the Wendy's chili. I think I'll stay away from that. :)

Barbara, I am jealous of your 14 pound loss. I loss 11 pounds the first week and just 1 this last week. I think my body is in shock. I was never one for the starvation diets, not that much will power. I am eatting more than I was, but I really expected to still lose a few pounds more. It is hard to imagine that I will eat less with restriction.

Would love to hear where everyone elses weight loss is to this point.

I have had the Chili post op... but I put it in the blender first. It is still really good, and you don't have to worry about the Beans getting stuck. Even though I am on Soups now, I blend everything so my tummy does not have to work.

This early in the game we need to not make our tummy work. (But then again, I am having volume problems... I can drink WAY more than I should.)

Other than that I am doing fine, can even roll over on my port side with minimal discomfort. My incisions are healing nicely and I only take Tylenol if I overdue it. Too bad I will be scheduled for hernia sugery soon. Find out today when I go back under. :)

Wish everyone the best of luck this week! Remember there is hope on the other side!!!

Ok am I weird.....

I've never felt pain at my port side :) . I know it's there because I've felt it. But I've been able to sleep on my side since day 1 and back to sleeping on my stomach 1 week post op. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering if something is wrong with my port since I've had no pain?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
