June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

I would like to see Celine. I'm not necessarily a big fan, but it's just one of those life experiences I think. I would LOVE to do a spa thing too. My preferred date is June 22, but any of the dates are doable for me. I think it will be fun.

Today so far I have had a cup of tea, 4 oz. of Light 'N Fit yoghurt and I am currently sipping something called Kombucha I bought at the health food store. It is some kind of tea mixed with fruit juice that is supposed to have enzymes, antioxidants, amino acids etc. I took some liquid tylenol this morning too.

Weight update-this morning I weighed 190! I will update the ticker later. Clear Liquids sure make the pounds fall off! But I can't wait for food again. 2 more weeks....

Hi Girls...

If there's one thing I know from reading the threads, is that everyone is welcome to everything. Welcome to say how they feel, what they think, and how different people share so many similar things. Nothings ever been done or said to personally attack, not include, or make someone feel bad. We all have one common thread - we've all been thru the roller coaster ride that is a lapband.

I may not post as much as I used to, but I do continue to read the June thread - with envy at some of your weight loss - and with happiness that it does work for so many people.

I really do have empathy for so many of you, and you're the only ones I can feel that way about - because I don't know anyone in "the real world" that's been thru WLS - the procedure has bonded us in a way that's bigger than a trip, bigger than so many things, but one thing it's not bigger than - we are ALL together in this.

February is my odd month, shorter, with Valentines Day - and the after affects of all the holidays. Also, I'll be 56 later this month, and I had hoped that I would have lost so much more weight, and with typing that, I realize there is so much more I can do to get back on track. I need to drink more Water, I need to push harder when I walk, and I need to reconsider how I've been eating. ACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Diet and exercise. What a pain.

Randi - Thanks for the post. I understand how it feels to make yourself vulnerable to public posting. I hope everyone will continue to let us know how you're doing. Some of us are pray - ers, some send positive thoughts, but you'll get something if you'll let us know what's happening.

I went to my favorite place yesterday. It's called Teavana and they have wonderful herbal teas. My favorite is a mix of mate vana and rooibos chai. You can order their teas on line. The rooibos gives a little boost like caffeine, but it's caffeine free.

Superbowl netted a gain on the scales and it was still there this a.m. I didn't think I overdid it, but every snack was salty. (no sweets, thank goodness). It's salads for me this week! The sugar habit seems to have lost it's hold. Thanks for letting me vent.

Physical therapist is now going beyond stretches and working my abs. It's not fun and I've yet to get any kind of massage. Rats!!! I've been afraid to do any abs since surgery and I guess it was time.

Randi : Your right nothing has been personally said to personally attack or slam anyone! I apologized to Barbara if I had offended her in anyway about the Vegas trip. She did not even post that she even acknowledge that I pubicly apologized to her.

When Iam wrong,I say Iam wrong and I chew alot of crow.

I actually felt so bad after she posted that I slammed her, that I unsubscried to this thread as not to cause any more trouble within the group.Does that seem fair at all to me? Why did I do it you may ask? To have respect for someone who has been in here alot longer than me.

So you see, Barbara I am still hurt and I have feelings also but I will respect yours and leave the group.

Randi - You and I may be on a closer page than it looks. 244 was a high for me, but actually I had gained 20 pounds in the 8 months before surgery. That means those 20 pounds came off easy (I lost 17 the first month).

If you take away the 20, I'm at a 36 pound loss.

I made a generalized statement about being afraid to post that was probably inappropriate. I post all the time. Too much in fact. I appreciate everyone's patience. I vent a lot because when I stay away from the forum, I get in trouble weight wise.

One more thing while we're on slow weight loss or plateau's. Dr. Spiegel says unlike Gastric Bypass patients, we have four years to get to goal before our bodies finally settle in to a maintenance level. The average bandster will consume 1200 - 1800 calories in order to maintain their weight. The 1200 - 1800 calorie remark came from another surgeon's blog, but it does make sense.

Lisa, with all due respect, I don't think Barbara asked you to leave the group. Please just take the words at face value - we're all here for support or to give support, and the ability to express ourselves in a nonjudgmental environment.

All Junebies should be included in the trip, and I believe all have been included or asked if they want to participate.

Barbara expressed herself as well. I dont think any apologies are needed at all on either part- you both talked about how you felt, and offered up opinions and facts. It's okay! Time to move on and get with the supporting and chatting :) The trip will come up here, invariably. I just skim by those posts as they don't currently apply to me (not able to go) and get to the ones that do.

Peace group! :hippie: :peace: (I am actually 36, so the hippie may not apply, but look, it's cute!)

Just a tidbit of statistical data to consider....

Studies show (please don't ask me to quote which, I haven't done enough homework to do that...) that communication is made up of three parts: words, body language and gestures, and tone.

Word=7%

Body Language=38%

Tone=55%

Guess which parts are missing in email and forums???? Kind of ironic that we rely so much on written word for communication, huh? :(

I met with a local neighborhood support group last night. Most of them had just been banded, the longest one 3 months. What a difference in perspectives from less than 3 months to 7. :)

I've been a bit unfortunate in the area of support groups. My surgeon has groups but they are mostly made up of bypass patients, so I'm usually the only one with the band. I've found I have more of a group here!

I just realized how close to the end you are...only 15 lbs, how awesome!

Hmmm, that's a good idea. I've been trying to think about my weight loss in 10's. (moving from the 80's to the 70's, etc.) I can't get out of the 60's though.....

My current goal is to get on the doctor's scale that has those moveable weights and not have to move the large weight starting at 250. I want to start at 225!

Julie - that is 37 lbs you'll never see again. That is a large jug of Water on one of those water coolers. That is almost 4 bowling balls. Put it in perspective. It's all good.

Wow --

Lots of activity going on the past few days. I've been out of the loop since I've been out of town. Socalgal --so glad to see that you are doing alright and recovering well from your surgery. Keep us posted. Also glad to see some of you post that haven't in awhile. I think of you from time to time.

As for Vegas --I absoluetly adore Celine Dion and will pay any price ot see her. I will go alone (I don't mind) or with others if they want to go. But, it's not the end of the world if I do not get to see her this Vegas trip. What's meant to be will be.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
