This is weird.. I can eat

Recommended Posts

Oh, I forgot to answer your question about whether drinking 6-7 pints of Water or herbal tea a day. That's about twice as much as my surgeon recommends. Staying well hydrated as you heal and for the rest of your life is essential for your health, but I'm curious about why you're drinking so much. Is that a typical amount for you? Are you extra thirsty? Are you taking any new medications? Are you diabetic? Those and many other factors can make you thirsty, and if that's not typical intake for you, you really need to talk to your primary care physician about it.

In theory it's possible to drink too much liquid, upsetting your electrolyte balance and wreaking havoc throughout your body, but that's not very common. I just don't want you to be ignoring a symptom of something that could be wrong with your health.

Please listen to Jean! She and I have been through that and have seen all issues with the band and the END RESULTS....

I encourage you to get Jean's book, on how to live with the lap band.

I am pre-surgery but from several of the posts I have read, most of the people said they were really hungry right after the band. You are not restricted at that point but must follow the crappy liquid/mush/puree diet. I am not looking forward to it, but I think it is an important part of the process for the band to work accurately and to prevent hurting yourself. good luck

@Jean - It's pretty much a normal amount for me. You see years ago I have done Cambridge diet where my Water intake was reaching something like 5 litres a day. I just sip on it constantly. It also may be connected to the fact I got hypothyroidism, however that one is under control with meds- Levothyroxine (as in blood tests come back good). So I guess drinking 3-4 litre a day is actually a downgrade for me. I do get thirsty very easily .

I just got used to drinking alot and it sure does wonders for my skin. Logically, as long as I dont gulp down large amounts it shouldn't really affect the band in any way? I just thought I'd ask since clearly asking my doc would be pointless, and I have yet to find a new one

I'm a thirsty person too.

I was told to drink one ounce per hour for the first 3 days post-op. At 5 days post-op it should be OK to drink freely, but not guzzle. As time goes on, you may discover that any liquid you drink too fast and too much will come right back up.

Scratch the one ounce per hour. I meant one ounce every 15 minutes!

Yes, as jean said, you must learn not to guzzle. Sip and small drinks are your friend. Guzzling is not! I agree, if you have not seen a nutritionist, see one who can advise you on eating for lapbanders. You probably spent way too much money to hurt your band and your health! Good luck. My 2 cents worth!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
