Nervous about eating the wrong things.

Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks post op and each week has been a challenge. I have waited 4 whole week to eat something with texture that now that I am able to I am so afraid to eat the wrong things. I am not sure if certain foods will get stuck or if there are certain foods that should just not be eaten ever again. On the other side of the fear I have lost 23 lbs in the last 4 weeks. ( yay me) This is where I need a little help, After surgery I was given a very small list of food options for week 4, can anyone give food Ideas that worked for them.

Are you eating mushy type or soft foods at this point?

When it came to soft foods, we had a lot of egg dishes, Omelets, Egg Foo Young, Soups like minestrone, chilli's, Beans and all kinds of soft fish fillets. Anything that you can chew up to a pasty consistency and still get Protein in.

At this time (and pretty much for the long haul) I would steer clear of breads, and any white colored starches. You can get as much nutrition from wheat and multi grain as white starch, though they all have a propensity to cause discomfort with the band for most.

As you move to more solid foods, I would be extra careful to take small bites and cut items up well and chew chew chew.

Lisa, I have tried small red potatoes, beets, and chicken salad. I just want to compile a good list of options so I don't get bored and then begin to eat things I should not.

At your stage I ate:

oatmeal with Protein Powder (blueberry, strawberry, banana or a combination of those).

Cottage cheese with fruit juice and unflavored Protein powder mixed in

Yogurt with extra protein powder

Mashed potatoes

tuna

Scrambled eggs

chicken Spread

Baked white fish

Cake Batter Muscle Milk - same consistency of cake batter, eaten as a snack

Home made Soups

Chili

Seafood Gumbo without rice

That all sounds yummy, though not the best nutrition.

There isn't one complete set of foods you can have or can't have. It's all subjective to you, your taste and your tolerance. If you want to have something have it, know the calorie, Protein and sugar content use good band mechanics when eating and go for it if it's a good choice.

You are in the drivers seat, the band is only there to guide you to your destination.

Lisa said it perfectly!!

There is no right or wrong foods. It's all a matter of what works best for you and your metabolism.

For the record, the only food I don't eat is dry meat because it's sure to get stuck. Otherwise, I can (and do) eat pretty much everything else just in moderation.

Don't be afraid, it's not nearly as hard or scary as you think :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
