Hormonally hungry..aaaahhh

Recommended Posts

Sorry fellows but I've got to say this... I'm mentally struggling for the first time properly today.. I'm craving junk food terribly. I know its because my hormones are getting going again now I'm thinner (I have polycystic ovary) but I've not experienced cravings like this post op before. I feel ratty and horrible.. In the past chocolate biscuits and crisps would ease my torment.. Any ideas??

if you are hungry (eat)

there are some great options (chocolate, crunch wise or sweet wise) and def eat something..no need to deprive....alittle something something isnt bad...(as long as you dont eat more calories than you can burn off),

you are good in my eyes

i dont do sweet stuff but on my TOM, i use a chocolate Protein bar or make am Protein frosty in my vitamixer w/ice and enjoy myself...

Hi Zingy - maybe your weight loss and return of period means it's time for a fill? I have no idea but thought I'd put it out there. Best wishes!

I read where estrogen is stored in fat cells and released during wt loss.

Which could account for the spontaneous cravings, also read it could make one behave a little hormonal.... as women this is hard to avoid but manageable, esp if we see it coming! I have already warned hubby & instructed him to put me in check if I start acting CRAY CRAY!

So just know its not in your head, this too shall pass... (eventually...lol)... and make decisions regarding food choices that will not bring you down.

If you can splurge and account for it in your food diary, then tweak other choices to reach your caloric goal, super!

But if you have little control and a few bites will push you over the edge, then avoid the temptation and find something to divert your thoughts.

Do not beat yourself up! Do not feel like you failed b/ c you had a taste..... that's called LIVING! --all in moderation--

For my occas chocolate craving I use PB2; the chocolate peanut-butter kind (its a powder). I mix a scoop with Water to make a paste, add a little Truvia to sweeten more; occas toss in a few pecan chips and it taste like a Reese Cup! It is very low in fat, low calories & high Protein. It allows me to tame my craving and then I'm done but I do not deny myself a few simple pleasures... that has always equaled failure for me personally!

I bought my PB2 off Amazon

-----best wishes

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
