Bucket List? Life after Lap Band.

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering if anyone else has a bucket list & things they want to do once they hit goal? I have been overweight my entire life & have a bucket list of things I want to do once I hit goal that I couldn't before due to weight. What is some things you all planned for when you loose weight or during your loosing phase with lap band?

Cool question!

I've been fortunate to experience a lot of them. They include:

-Sitting in a booth

-Flying on plane without needing a belt extension

-Going on carnival rides

-Not being the biggest one in the room

-Wearing non-plus size clothes

-Seeing the scale go into Onederland

The only one I have left is to hit my goal :)

- Look great at my son's wedding - I was pretty damn happy - see my profile photo.

- Complete the Great Victorian Bike Ride (multi day cycling event) - started last year but didn't complete because I crashed and hurt myself on day three. Signed up again for this year and hoping a non-band related health issue will not get in the way. However, I have completed the Lions Ride for Sight, an even longer multi day charity bike ride and that felt damned good!

- Dance all night - again, achieved until this other health issue cropped up but I will get there again.

- Swim with dolphins - hoping to achieve that for my upcoming half century!

What I look forward to:

Losing the CPAP machine

No BP medicine

Bye bye arthritic pain

Loving exercise -- craving that instead of food

Dancing -- feeling light on my feet again

Able to do Yoga, be on the floor (and get up!)

Barge trip in France with our own little rented barge and bicycles on board

Fun clothes like I used to wear, lingerie to jeans or an old evening gown

Not cringing and hiding when a camera appears

Strong and able in the garden

Looking good for our son's graduation (June, yikes, better get this show on the road!)

Happy beach times, snorkeling, not embarrassed in swimwear

I want to swim with dolphins, too! (Thanks Sage Tracey)

Cycling in Europe -- along the Danube there is a big bike path.....

Ease while traveling, comfortable on planes, able to nap anywhere

Not feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, really showing up for life each day

Stopping thinking about food all the time!

More comfortable interviewing, being in public, easier professional life

Less shy and awkward, able to stand up for myself better

Going sailing sometime, messing around with boats

ENERGY ENERGY ENERGY

Those are all great items to have on the list! It's the simple things that mean the most! Good luck to you all in your band journeys!!! <3

-Look good in cute clothes, shopping spree! (Maybe even design some of my own?)

-Take a dancing course, and actually accomplish it instead of struggling to breathe/hurting too much.

-Gain back lost flexibility.

-Have abs (hey, it could happen! ;) )

-Enjoy walking in NYC next time.

-Ride amusement rides I couldn't before.

-Be lifted by a lover.

-lose the fear of breaking furniture and love my loft bed!

-incorporate my weight loss into my art somehow, paint dance?

-wear a flattering swimsuit proudly.

-buy a cosplay costume, instead of having to make one.

-wear a regular sized Halloween costume for a girl.

-get complimented on the weight I've lost and actually believe the person.

-eliminate my Hidradenitis Suppurativa, or, at the very least, significantly decrease its attacks.

-learn to like exercise, and love swimming even more, fear free of watching eyes.

-be in a musical, accomplish the dancing numbers, play one of my dream roles.

-be hugged by someone who can wrap their arms entirely around me.

Many, many more.

My biggest would be:

Fly without an extender OR encroaching on another's space (along with also not having people stare or take pictures of me in airports...it's happened)

Ride my horses again and then join a drill team (I've gotten to a weight that's not fair or healthy for them for me to get up there)

Feel good in swimwear

Date (I've actually never dated...ever) and feel comfortable with myself...getting out and feeling amazing...oh and have someone ask for my number for a reason other than to play a sick joke.

To be carried by someone

Ride every amusement park ride I come across without fear of not fitting or it breaking under my weight.

Hike Half Dome

Play soccer

Not be the only fat person in my town or be the person everyone knows because everyone has talked out you at some point because you're so obese (I've met people for the first time many a times and they already know my life story)

Wear high heels

Wear a sexy dress

Wear SHORTS! (And look good!)

Shop at normal stores...and go with my girlfriends and not feel silly case I can't shop with them.

Attend my high school reunion and be recognized by no one and shock the hell out of each an everyone of them when they ask my name :D

Boy that list got longer than I thought it would.

I am one week post op today and I've been thinking about what I can't wait to do.

- Be able to go on every ride at an amusement park and not have to worry if I can be buckled in.

- Fly on an airplane without an extender.

- Run a 5K. And actually run the whole way, not walk/run.

- To not feel self conscious at the gym.

- Buy a little black dress.

- Go on a date.

Some of these do sound a little material, but after being overweight for 25 years and finally taking control and doing something about it, I think I'm allowed, haha!

*Zip lining, always sounded soooo fun and I look forward to doing it soon!!!

*Ne able to go out and not be the one that needs to keep eating and eating and looking like a pig!

*Not live my life constantly worried about obesity and death

*Go on a roller coaster

*Feel satisfied about what I look like and not avoid the mirrors around my house or anywhere

I have just started the process and hope to be banded by February. I love this question.

1. For my hubby to be able to carry me

2. Not be afraid to try on clothes.

3. Be able to wear the clothes in my closet that have been bought in hopes that someday ill be able to where them.

4. Be proud of my body.

5. Wear a bathing suit and feel good.

6. Be healthy for my children.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
