Port needs to be replaced :(

Recommended Posts

Was banded on6/12. I have lost about 50 pounds. Went today for second fill .. I have been feeling like the first fill did absolutely nothing so was very excited for this one . He does it under X-ray so he knows right where to go. Well he can put Fluid in but not take it out .. After looking further he sees that the port is not attached to the catheter so I am thinking I probably have never had any fluid go into my band . Says the port must have been defective .. Nothing I did.. And will have to be replaced . Anyone that knows what the procedure is like .. Any input would be great .

About like the original surgery only it is not as severe I would guess. Assuming the catheter is connected to the band it should be far less drastic, but likely still an anesthesia procedure.

Make sure to ask the surgeon if is going to check the whole system out at the same time.

It's a simple day surgery procedure. My port had flipped so it had to be revised. It's not like when you were banded initially. There should be very little to no pain. It's a superficial wound and you should be out of the OR in no time. The doctor will most likely advise liquids for two days then back to how you eating before your port needed replacing.

I had a port replacement the beginning of June. In late may I went in and he could get Fluid in, but not out. I was initially banded feb. 1st, and my port was so severely kinked it had to be replaced. It's an 'easy' surgery (I think the surgery was less than an hour), but I was in much more pain than I expected to be for a few days after. I was bummed to have an issue so soon after being banded, but all is working fine now. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Just out of curiosity, what do the charge to replace the port or flip it back over?

Mine will be covered once they approve it and I've already hit my deductible so nothing for me.. I bet the actual charge is similar to the Lapland charge ..

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
