DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted September 20, 2013 *AHEM*... if I may interrupt for some statistical assistance All the stats posted earlier were true, however the problem is twofold: Some of those studies are very old and use the old 4cc band. This is makes the study no longer valid because it doesn't apply to the new generation of gastric band. Plus, it's common knowledge that the old 4cc band is no longer used in the US because of it's high complication rate. The second issue is the fact most studies only look at overall complications rather than patient caused complications versus band caused complications. If you're looking at overall complications, I'd very much believe the higher (scarier) statistic. I'm no expert, but after reading these forums for 20+ months is sadly apparent that many people are going into this surgery totally ignorant to the facts. I don't know if it's a lack of doctor education or them not taking the time to educate themselves (or both?) but it's no surprise so many end up with problems. What's sadder is, I read some threads on here where people are walking around for months or years with a band WAY too tight. I think to myself "well, we'll be seeing them back complaining about how evil the band is when they have a slip". Sure enough... I have lost count of the number of times I was (sadly) right. There is a study that is very recent, included a major larger number of participants, and actually makes the distinction between true band complications versus patient caused complications. This study only shows 5% of all complications are by no fault of the patient. The rest of the complications, or 95%, are because of patient error. http://www.futurity....p-band-surgery/ Okies...y'all may carry on with your previously scheduled bickering. NaNa 878 Posted September 20, 2013 Did you legit just pull the "race card". Get over yourself... If that's not ignorance I have NO idea what is... Oh my god! You are the SAME idiot that was crying wolf in a post recently that said you wanted to get your band removed and you were in SO MUCH pain...and you got the audacity to come here with your ignorance and try to flame me ...HOW DARE YOU... I wish there was a block button on here, you'd be the first person I would block...you in particular NEED to listen to all THE LAP BAND WARNINGS...from your screaming post about you want to get your band removed after only 1 week.... I am not even going to respond to your post anymore....you are not even worth my fingers typing...good bye...

I've got my popcorn ready to watch the rumble!! Like I said in my post before MOST of the HIGH COMPLICATION RATE is from LAP BAND ABUSE...not from any real complication...so I believe that 95 percent of the HIGH COMPLICATION RATE IS FROM THE PATIENT...this is why I've been screaming in this POST ..MOST OF THE COMPLICATIONS CAN BE AVOIDED...IF YOU KNOW WHAT SIGNS TO LOOK FOR ..AND KNOW HOW TO LIVE WITH THE LAP BAND... I am going bed now ..the ignorance is making me ill....thanks for that last study...I typically have access to many up to date studies.. 1 jennybean reacted to this
donna450 130 Posted September 20, 2013 Could it be that my skin tone is a bit too brown to be a 'KNOW IT ALL" I've had that before...others say the same thing..but the value I bring is priceless to some' date=' but again...many probably don't want it coming from a brown black woman...and I am surely not an angry black woman...my life is too good for that... I am truly here to help... I've just seen so many going down a path of lap band destruction and MAYBE...JUST MAYBE some people would like to do things the RIGHT WAY with the band...and .those that want my help great and...for those who don't please ignore me and believe in the lap band fairy .LOL..[/quote'] Why keep attacking NaNa? You all keep the anger spreading. If you don't like what she says black white whatever then don't comment on anything she says. I take what I can use for myself and put it to use for me as I do with many who post. But to beat this subject to death shows theres more than one ignorant person. Drop it! Go back to telling your experience. Newbies like myself get alot of info but this bickering should stop if you really want to help the newbies. Now attack me! For giving my opinion. lisacaron 5,075 Posted September 20, 2013 Sadly a simple comment has derailed this thread. The question was important to all of us. The answer subjective to each of us. Some of the opinions like having a Lapband, some of them hard to swallow others not easily digested and still others intolerable. We all find our way and we all figure out what is palatable and good I for us. Some things like the comments of harsh but well meaning bandsters may not be our favorite flavor but we need it non the less. For every plus you can find 2 negatives, so choose to be the positive by learning what the negatives are even when /if they are hard to swallow they still have some value. Let's put the axes down and let this thread die out. The question will come up again, for every new old and current bandster and we will learn some more from their experiences as we share ours. I'm going to unsubscribe to this thread and read you all on another. Thanks all for your candor and comments have a nice evening.
southernqt 236 Posted September 20, 2013 The moon sure is pretty tonight in small town ga! :-) I hate that people are fussing on here we are all suppose to be each others support group. Why cannot everyone just agree to disagree? I'm almost positive that all this fussing is not helping the thread starter one bit. 5 2muchfun, sc1586, ☠carolinagirl☠ and 2 others reacted to this

I am not even going to respond to your post anymore....you are not even worth my figures typing...good bye...[/quote'] I will absolutely own up to wanting it out in my first 4 days when I was having complications that were NOT caused by me. However you're "in so much pain" was not accurate. I was not in pain, never took my pain meds actually. I had problems due to lactose intolerance. This is what we call in nursing, someone who "eats their young". Maybe I'm wrong but it's actual appears than many have the "buyers remorse" in the first few days. I was completely validated by many. The difference is I have no problem owning to my emotions and embracing them. This is a very emotional experience and I will not apologize for "feeling". That makes me human unlike you. I was simple pointing out you're a wench and I see what many are saying when they respond to your posts. You're rude and ignorant. You have your experience. But your experience alone is NOT "bible" the end all be all of lap bands. It's your opinion. You don't spew facts. Then above all you pull the "race card". That's just pathetic. I have no respect for anyone who pulls that card, we are in the 21st century. It's people like you that continue to play the victim related to race. GET OVER YOURSELF. I don't care if a person is black, white, brown, orange, yellow, green, gay, lesbian, straight etc. I thing when someone pulls the "race card" it's disgusting and an uneducated ignorant statement. I would rather have this lap band out than EVER take advice from such an ugly human being... You should really start working on your personality now. It sucks 1 Heccat2 reacted to this

Sorry I get quite heated when one pulls the "race card" As in my original post, the stats are scary. Furthermore outdated. Thank you Mis for posting some newer ones. I wasn't attacking ANYONE with my original post. I was simply saying that to the lay person who isn't aware how insignificant 300 patients really is, or how outdated they were, they're scary. I'm glad I did not see it before I made my choice. Doesn't mean I was uneducated or uninformed with my decision. I am very happy at this point. However it is an emotional experience Nana just decided to spew her negativity anyways and assume I was uneducated and ignorant.
lellow 1,713 Posted September 20, 2013 So to summarise for those who are skipping through the bickering posts like I am: Vomitting all the time = bad Night-time reflux/coughing = usually bad Too tight = bad Intolerance to some foods = common and does not always indicate that you are too tight Intolerance to anything that resembles solid food = bad, indicates you are too tight Ignoring "too tight" signs may lead to a slip/erosion/pneumonia etc. Not to be trifled with, should be taken care of asap. Those are the cliff notes for anyone who is actually here looking for an answer to the original question. 11 2muchfun, DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!, jennybean and 8 others reacted to this
