Emotional but...

Recommended Posts

Well it has been quite the emotional 24 hrs. I was convinced I made the biggest mistake in my entire life doing this surgery. I will indeed recant that. Although its still miserable and I'm starving I feel slightly better that I found a lactose free Protein I can mix with crystal light fruit punch that I LIKE. Although a small feat, a much needed one. I'm hoping now that I can get in my required 50g of protein a day in shakes and everything else is extra that ill be slightly less hungry and less miserable and no horrible milk cramping. I will say this is emotionally trying. My dad is the best and helps me realize I'm being silly thinking I made a mistake, that indeed this was one of the best decisions of my life. I do have to say its a little difficult that my dietician is heartless her suggestions are "deal with it". She didn't have any compassion. I must seem like a basket case on here but everyone's responses help so much even if its just validating what I'm feeling is completely 100% normal. I think that's the best gift anyone gave me from here was validation. I felt so alone. Thank you everyone soooo much. Now that I have some stuff figured out. When do you start feeling like yourself again? Like energy wise. I have to go back to work on the 22. I'm a nurse crazy hours. I'm hoping ill be able to! Thanks guys!

See what a difference a day can make! Glad you're feeling a bit better already. Don't worry about the 22nd.... just today. :)

So glad you are doing better. Remember that you had a major surgery and your body is doing a lot of adjusting, not to mention diet changes at the same time! Anesthesia also affects you quite a bit. Each day should get a little better. I am also a nurse and went back to work a week after surgery and did ok. The hardest part is working on getting the liquids in! Good luck.

You might want to try pea Protein or egg white Protein powders. Mixed with almond milk, they are a great alternative to whey and cows milk.

Glad you're feeling better. The way I describe how it was for me in the beginning, was a roller coaster ride; ups & downs, getting used to a new way of life, not to mention the post-op diet and healing. You will get through this, and as another poster mentioned, we'll see you on here jumping for joy as the number on the scale starts to go down. This physical and emotional upheaval WILL settle, and you'll be on your way. Hang in there..... :)

I remember feeling like this before and after my surgery. I was banded on May 1st of this year. I remember crying to my sister second guessing my self and setting myself for failure. Then I thought about all the other diets I tried and failed then I realized that this surgery is not a diet it is a healthy lifestyle change. The first couple of days I felt weak but each day I got better and I felt a little stronger. I am sorry you was told to just "deal with it" but we all been here and I know if you stay focus you can do this. In other words.... "Girl you got this!" Also I work with a lot of banded nurses that works all types of shifts. My advice to you is to plan your meals and have a back up Protein Bar or back up type Protein somewhere. You will learn as you go. I know you can do this and good luck!

I'm so glad you are feeling better!! Each day will get better for you now! I'm only five days post op, so I am in a similar situation. But my advise is to FIND A NEW NUTRITIONIST!! There should be a balance between tough love and being a supportive cheerleader, and it sounds like she is just tough. She is an important member of your support team! Find someone who will be helpful, not hurtful.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
