This is not what I expected and now I wonder if I made the right decision... I'm starving and after I "drink" I feel like hell even worse than before. This is definitely rough. I also have this horrible burping problem with position changes and after I take any liquids in. I'm hoping this gets better because I'm miserable :-(

Sorry to hear of your discomfort, but it will get much better soon! I'd suggest to try and walk around as much as you can tolerate, and sip your Water or other liquids ok'd by your surgeon. Some folks find anti-gas strips/liquid helps with the discomfort.

It's not uncommon to hear the "buyers remorse" you are describing, but soon you'll be on your way to a new life! Take it one day at a time.

Best wishes! :)

I also experienced buyers remorse quickly after surgery. I did learn I was drinking my liquids to quickly causing a lot of discomfort. Once I learned to drink smaller sips and over a longer period of time I felt better. I am now close to three months out and down 33 lbs. It WILL get better. Walk as much as possible and keep your drinks small. You will get there.

The problem with newly banded people is that we spent so much time eating now you have nothing to do. Get a good book or go for a walk just know that your life is going to be great now. No one ever died from being hungry. We all have been there, questioned our selves but the whole point is you will see a light at the end of the tunnel. For now embrace that hungry feeling because you probably have not been hungry in years. It wont last forever. But it is what has to be for now until you get to eat real food.< /p>

I remember after the first couple days I was so hungry i could "eat a whole zebra," to quote the Lion King, LOL. But I stuck to it, and as the other posters said learned to go slowly! THere's many things going on- not just the placement of the band, but the after affects of surgery generally. On day 8 I remember thinking, wow, I feel great! Not so much before that. Do take it easy, but walk as much as possible and remember it WILL get better.

Oh honey u are so new get your heating pad drink hot tea very slow;ly and have some milk of magnisum to really soften things up and get the gas out. Any surgery is miserable afterwards but it gets so much better and the weight loss is so worth it. Hang in there sweetie this is the worst part.

You will feel totally different in a week or two.. the first few days after surgery I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life.. but, I survived and I am so happy I did.. I am 50 lbs lighter and 10 x healthier.. no more diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol...be patient with yourself and follow your Dr's instructions...

i also briefly experienced buyers remorse and i was doing well. most of my adjustments came week after surgery as i work a desk job and had to make adjustments to increase movement, to time my meals (shakes)etc. I am slowly adding foods and am down 25 lbs. I am counting the days till i can have my Atkins Peanut Butter chocolate Meal Replacement bars again..yummy..and this is from someone who hated any type of shakes, esp meal replacement shakes or bars. I am reading mindless eating and ordering bandwagon cookery. It fells strange to have food be of such lesser importance in my life..but also good. Hang in there! It is worth it..you will feel better, look better be healthier. walk walk walk! deb

Thank you all for so much support. I think I'm lactose intolerant which is making it all worse bc what my md is allowing me to eat until sept 26 is all dairy based. I have never found a Protein Shake I liked, so I emailed my nutritionist begging for puréed/mushie food. I mean I can eat pudding, so id hope baby food at least... I'm desperate. I'm consistently cramping and aching after my dairy stuff. Blah! I knew I had this issue before but I just avoided dairy. Fingers crossed she lets me do puréed 1 weeks post op.

pudding is dairy unless is made with soy, rice or almond milk so be careful. My boyfriend is lactose intolerant so he uses vanilla soy milk a lot. I still can't tolerate the taste of soy milk on it's own but in pudding it's OK

I know pudding is dairy... My example was used for consistency of the food. This stinks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
