Upset - very low weight loss - please help!

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

Thank you for reading my post. I was banded on 8/21/13. In the first week, I lost 11 lbs. However, a week later, I gained 3 lbs, so my weight loss is at 8 lbs. I have been unable to lose any more weight. My weight keeps going up and down 3 lbs. I see that other people have already lost so much more than me. It is almost a month and I don't know why my weight isn't going down. I am following all the rules!

Please help!

The first 4-6 weeks should be concentrated on healing not losing. Plus, you should never ever compare yourself to anyone else. This is your journey and comparing your loss to others is only setting yourself up for unnecessary disappointment.

Stick to band size portions, track your calories, and exercise and the weight will come off.

First of all everyone loses at a different pace. You are not going to lose like everyone else. 8lbs is a good loss. Count everything you are putting in your mouth then see at the end of the day how many calories you are eating if its over 1000 or no more then 1200 then you need to check yourself as to what you are eating. Stop comparing your weight loss to everyone else.

stay off the scale

it goes up and down all day long and just by what you wrote, you see how it affects you...let your insides heal......4 to 6 weeks after surgery as mis said is for healing........and for getting your head into the game.........learning/thinking positive and FOLLOWING the lap bad post op diet...no one said having WLS was easy....except those who expected to lose 100 pounds overnight...dont be one of them..

to lose weight, we must eat or drink more calories then we burn off....

let the band work......but it must heal first..you need to heal first hon

ps: who cares what so and so loses, thats them not YOU

you focus on YOU

I had the same thing happen, I lost 12 or so lbs in the 4 months with the Nut, then 16lbs on the 1 week liquid diet, and gained 4lbs when I started eating again. After my first fill, I lost like 8lbs the first few days then it started slowing down again. I dunno why. Just stick to your guns and let your body do what it needs to do.

There is a reason why they call it a journey.

My wife and I were banded on 9/12/07. At first I lost much quicker than she did she had frequent times when she would lose and gain the same 3 pounds. I lost most of my weight the first 8 months then I slowed way down.

Six years later she weighs about 25 pounds less then I do. I have lost over 100 pounds and so has she I am still losing slowly she is staying about the same weight.

I focus a lot on NSV and the fact that I do not take any medication for diabetes.

Just stay the course and do not compare yourself to others.

Hang in there, when I went in for my first post op, I had lost a total of 14 pounds and was worried that I didn't loose enough. Both the doctor and the nurse said that it is not uncommon for people NOT to have lost weight. They made a point to tell me that I should NOT compare myself to anyone else. Weight loss is intensely personal and I should focus on how my clothes are fitting, or not fitting. Be patient, let yourself heal and don't be a slave to the scale. If your doing what you need to be doing, the weight will come off.

THANK YOU to everyone who responded. Your replies were very helpful. I will get there. You are all an inspiration!

I was banded 8-2-13 and stopped losing for about 4 weeks and had my second fill (6cc in a 10cc band) and I have lost 1.5 lbs in 4 days. Work out a little extra lifting weights, eat Protein and stay away from too much sugar and carbs. We are going to win this war with the extra weight, but you have to believe to achieve ???ƒ

Sometimes I feel the same about my weight loss but from reading the forum I know that you first have to get to the green zone to make the biggest success. Getting to the green zone is called bandster hell for a reason!

Early it's about healing, and from there you do the best you can. The fills should start to have a impact, but learning the bandster ropes is what I see as the biggest part of the second stage. Finally being at the green zone is the end game . Maybe that's a simplistic view but that how I see it and hope that helps.

I acknowledge that between those stages there are a lot of ups and downs, and work to be done.

I'm a slow loser I have lost between 55 and 60 pounds since 12/28/12. If I have a Water weight gain it could go up as high as 8 lbs so be patient. I get frustrated a lot but decided as long as I follow the rules it will come off even if it takes time. Patience is a virtue!

Grmama, In the beginning I was experiencing the same thing as you. I was in a plateau for about three weeks. I was following all the rules and exercising 5 times a week for an hour. Then, I took Mis73's advise and started losing at least 2 pounds a week.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
