4 days post op. feeling horrible! help?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I got banded on Tuesday. I've barely been able to sip Water and I feel horrible. I'm really regretting getting the band in the 1st place. I've been crying since Tuesday. Can someone please tell me this is going to get easier?

It's going to get easier. Try using a heating pad for th pain, sip as much Water as you can, take your pain meds on a regular basis and just relax.

It will get better. Don't give up before you've even started.

Hi Caitlin-

The first few days can be a little rough after surgery. your body is trying to process everything. Filtering out the anesthesia and having something new inside that wasn't there before.

Take it slow and be gentle with yourself. If you have pain meds take them, and rest. Try sipping some warm tea, and/or sugar free ice pops. Those things worked the best for me. Get up and walk around so your body can release the gas that's been put in, and even though it's uncomfortable keep taking deep breaths to clear your lungs.

An ice pack on the belly near the port will help you feel more comfortable as well. If you are still feeling bad this weekend give your Doc. a call for some peace of mind.

Feel better soon!

Hi caitlin, I really struggled drinking Water post op too.. My throat was sore and I had awful trapped wind and was really swollen.. I sucked ice lollies and drank watered down Soup. It was easier warm than cold... Don't regret it you'll be fine soon. Xx

I had band regret for the first week. Then I started to feel better and now life is good. You just had major surgery and life will get better. Take your pain medication routinely, walk, and rest.

Hi there. This is my second day after surgery. I think something that has helped me is walking. They had me up and around right after surgery. The night I came home after the surgery I went for a 30 minute walk and I am doing that everyday. I don't want to do it, I feel tired and sore but once I am out for the walk I feel so much better and the gas starts to dissapate.

I am trying to get in as much Water as I can and have also found hot tea to be very soothing. I also found a Protein Shake that I really like and can easily dring - Muscule Milk Light, chocolate.< /p>

I have noticed if I go too long with out the pain medication I get very cranky and irritated.

Hang in there, it will get better. Take your mind off of it, read a book, find a hobby, etc...

Yes it definately gets easier...everyday a little better. I was in a ton of pain too. The nurses looked surprised that i seemed to not expect pain...but after reading hundreds of post where people said they had little to no pain and happily went home the same day....i sort of expected the same for me. WRONG. I cried most of the time and had nightmares that someone was trying to kill me. Then i threatened the nusres about pain meds and woke my doc in the middle of the night after i threatened to leave the hospital. I was a HOT MESS.....or as they say "Tore up from the floor up" Anyway i am almost two weeks post op and it was 5 days post before i felt decent. Hang in there because today i feel as i did before the surgery. Just keep sleeping....so the days go faster. You can do it!!!!

I have been having nightmares that I am cooking and end up nibbling on something and get sick. It is funny how our minds work!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
