Loose comfy clothes to wear home. A house dress would be perfect or sweat pants.

A robe, because they'll get you up walking very soon after surgery. Hospitals gown are notorious for exposing your bottom so a robe will come in handy so no one gets a free show :)

I went in at 530 am and left at 11am the same day that was from being admitted to being discharged so I didn't have to stay there long at all but I would recommend t-shirt and sweat pants or some kind of stretchy pants/shorts.

PILLOW for the ride home (to splint your abdomen, esp w/ bumps in the road).

If you live a few hours away I would suggest bringing a cooler with a couple of drinks (gator aid was nice).

Make sure your PAIN MEDS are filled PRIOR to leaving the hospital (I did not do this and suffered until the next night before we could get it filled)(also some pharmacies do not carry the liquid pain meds in regular stock).

Dress for comfort and make sure you wear something that is easy to maneuver for potty breaks (nothing tight on abdomen).

Stock up your panty prior to surgery and make sure you have enough post-op food to make it at least a week.

Gas-ex for gas pain... some claim it works... some not... but if your having lots of gas pain it just may make you feel better to take it (comes in ready melt strips).

Be prepared to walk walk walk (to reduces gas pain) have a path mapped out in the back yard or house that is free if objects because you will not want to trip, fall or pick things up out of your path.

--good luck--

Thank you all so much! It means a lot. I have to stay just overnight, but I'd hate to be thinking "oh I should've packed...". I really love the support in this forum and thanks again!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
