AZ Gary 149 Posted September 12, 2013 Since they are becoming available for this season, how many of you are getting flu shots as a preventive measure? I know at work I am around a lot of difference people and also have a couple of trips planned. The thought of getting sick with a stomach bug is something I really don't want to encounter. 1 kll724 reacted to this
KAATNS 1,473 Posted September 12, 2013 I don't have a choice at my place of employment, but if I did I would still get one. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
lisacaron 5,075 Posted September 12, 2013 I get one every year. I work in a large office building and the company brings in a mini clinic to dispense them for us. Those that don't get them in here...always end up getting very sick. I'm thinking of getting it earlier this year, since they are out already and people are already starting to get sick. My son and my step son started college last week, and they are already sick sneezing and coughing. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
DetChatt 188 Posted September 12, 2013 I get a flu shot every year. I got a stomach bug in the middle of the night shortly after being banded. It hit me before I could think to take something for the vomiting, but I doubt it would have helped. Scared me to death! I called the doctor, but they assured me it was doubtful it did any damage and just to go see them or call if I felt anything off (which I didn't). 2 ☠carolinagirl☠ and kll724 reacted to this
kll724 3,055 Posted September 12, 2013 I get a flu shot eery year, also. Getting sick, especially stomach virus or flu, is bad with the band. My surgeon even recommends an unfill if you are truly vomiting! 2 ☠carolinagirl☠ and dylanmiles23 reacted to this
dylanmiles23 2,198 Posted September 12, 2013 Last year at the ripe old age of 62, I got my very first flu shot. My doctor said the strain last year would put you in the hospital. I know of someone who almost died from the flu and was in ICU for almost 3 weeks. She was on a family cruise and was air lifted to Miami (she lives there). I will most likely get one again when I see my PCP next month. 3 ☠carolinagirl☠, kll724 and lisacaron reacted to this
dsferfeargregrhgttrhht 49 Posted September 12, 2013 As a teacher, I get one every year! I still got the flu last year though . . . sometimes it's hard to escape the germs from all of the students. 2 ☠carolinagirl☠ and dylanmiles23 reacted to this
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted September 12, 2013 We don't have a choice at the hospital if you don't get one you do not get the 650 dollar discount on our insurance and have to wear a mask from Oct 1 until March 30. Seems to me it's forcing me to take something I don't want. My immune system is totally good, I have never had the flu and was taking care of patients last year that had it. It's all about hand washing to keep from getting sick 2 dylanmiles23 and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

I don't like anything forced on me and every year I get angry at the whole thing. I always get sick the day after that shot ... I have a very healthy immune system & I don't count this shot as contributing towards my health

My doctor told me to take liquid Tylenol every 4 or 6 hours (sorry forgot which) for 24 hours and that would make it that I would not get sick. It worked. ☠carolinagirl☠ 18,721 Posted September 13, 2013 yep, i get one every nov around my bday.....
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted September 13, 2013 Well the problem is they are giving you last years strain and not what is going around this year so you can still get the flu even with the flu shot. I don't want it but am being forced to take it. I had a bad reaction to the last one I got a few years ago. Our employee health nurse said I could take the nasal one that is a live virus and not work for two weeks until the exposure is a threat to anyone. Now why the heck would I do something like that.
