caffeine

Has anyone else become overly sensitive to caffeine after being banded? I didn't have a problem before the band but recently I have found myself very sensitive to coffee and other drinks with caffeine, it's gotten especially bad after my last fill. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

I haven't had issues with it.. I love coffee and I drink real coffee in the morning with half and half.. sometimes I will get a sugar free hazelnut iced coffee at Starbucks.. what kind of problem are you having? sleep problem or jittery? some people can't tolerate real coffee...

right after the band i had to stop all the diet coke i was drinking pre band, we are talking a six pack of 20oz bottles a day. I went off most caffeine for about 6 months. I could tell a difference when i added tea back. If i drink a lot of tea in a day I have a hard time going to sleep. I don't remember that from before and i have been banded a while.

I had quit caffeine cold turkey for about the first year of being banded. Back to having 1 large Dunkin Donuts a day. No issues here aside from the fact that it wires me up and puts me on hyper drive more then ever did before. I guess that's what happens when you finally detox and cleanse your system.

Yes, caffeine is a known stomach irritant, and can contribute to band issues. Also, post band I am more sensitive to the stimulant effects of coffee, just as I am with the depressant effects of my occasional half glass of wine.

I am able to have caffeine in the morning only, and I can no longer tolerate a full glass of wine as I did pre-band.

A little goes a lot further now!.

Interesting. I was told to give up caffeine. Mainly because it dehydrates your body, which actually makes you hungry. Giving up caffeine was so difficult, I didn't see the point in going back to it. Sure I miss it at times, but for the most part I don't miss it at all. I only drink Water. Anything diet tastes horrible and is unsatisfying. So I guess I can't answer that question.

I cannot live without my coffee.....started drinking it less than 24hrs after my surgery.

I start the day with 2 cups before heading to the gym, then a few more cups during the day....give or take.

I like it black....drank nothing but double espressos on vacation....I know with espresso they have to make it fresh from scratch with every order....

Not me. Now that I think out it, I have it more often :)

I was a coffee addict. Drank 48 ounces of coffee a day, I quit about 4 weeks ago. I was banded 9/6 and my surgeon/nut told me to stop drinking caffeine because it can cause stomach cancer ? Anyone hear of that. I miss coffee very much but I don't want to cause any damage.

I don't drink coffee but am a huge tea drinker. I was told no caffeine for about 6 months after the surgery. I drink mostly Decaf tea. I use decaf instant coffee in my Protein shakes. The caffeine dehydrates you I was told.

Love coffee in the morning. Rarely drink after 2:00 pm because it will keep me up.

Never ever had an issue with coffee

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
