2 weeks post surgery, weight loss stopped...is that normal?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on 08/30. Since then, I've lost approximately 8lbs. My start weight was 291 but the day of my surgery I weighed in at 278. I'm at 269/270 right now but it's been this way since I started on week 2 of my post op diet. Is this normal to not lose any weight so far on week 2?

i havnt had the surgery yet but ive seen lots of people on youtube and on here talk about how they hit little plateus. its only been 2 weeks so i would just focus on healing and letting your body adjust tothe lapband and them im sure you'll begin to see/feel the change. its like with any drastic diet/change your body kinda goes into shock. :)

Thanks :)

Everyone has noticed the change so far...but right now I just was like "my weights not changing...am I doing something wrong?"

You're only a few weeks post-op. I'd stay off the scale for awhile, your body is still healing. Best wishes!

8 lbs in 2 weeks is great! Your body may just need to catch up with the significant amount you have already lost. Just continue to follow your doc's guidelines, drink lots of Water, get some walking in and eventually the weight will start to fall off again.

Remember that the first 6 weeks or so is about healing not weight loss. The loss is a bonus. Your body is still adjusting to the drastic changes you just allowed to be introduced.

Someone mentioned staying off the scales. That is a good idea, but so hard to follow when you are excited. It will start dropping again.

it is time for healing. The weight loss is to come when your band it adjusted right. I have to keep telling myself that also. I got my second fill this past monday and I think I may be close to where i need to be. I have lost right at 40 pds since preop and lost it fast but have been hanging out around the same weight for about three weeks. don't panic. It will come.

7 months out and I do this too. Loose and maintain, loose and maintain. Your doing great. Keep up the good work. Your dietitian can help with the food intake suggestions and the weight will be falling off soon.

I lost 10lbs the first 2weeks after surgery mainly bcuz of the internal swelling and the ill effects immediately following the procedure. I jst cldnt think abt food.

The 3rd week is when things began to subside. The heavy gas went away & i was at 3cc's and able to consume jst about anything i wanted.

Until ur in the green zone & feeling some restriction u'll have to rely on the no carb 4oz meals calorie counting & exercise as ur weight loss regimen for now.

Im at 4cc's now since 9/1. 11 days in and im no longer feeling the restriction anymore.

My nurse tells me with my 10cc band my green zone maybe somewhere between 5-7.

So i cant wait to begin seeing some REAL weightloss before the holidays get here...

How long did it take for you to get your appetite back. I am only 3 days out but I am having to make myself eat. I know I can't just not eat but I don't want to eat to much. I also get a lot of pressure after eating/drinking. Is that normal?

How ate you feeling today? I'm day 2 post-op & I'm very sore! I'm hoping day 3 will give me some relief.

I got a fill yesterday and it took the loverly nurse 4 attempts before she could get it.. She needs to do me sitting up as the port move sideways when I lay down.. I'm Only 150lb so my port pops out!!

Luckily I am numb in the port area from the operation, so have no pain at fills,

I don't think I would be to happy waiting that long.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
