gallstones.????????

Recommended Posts

so I had my lap band surgery in January of this year and now...I have gallstones. it's the WORST feeling I've ever had in my life. I'm scheduled for surgery this Friday. just letting you all know that getting gallstones after weight loss surgery is very common. just be cautious about the symptoms because it can get serious if you don't take care of it quickly.

so sorry to hear about your gallbladder .. the surgery for that is so easy now a days.. I had my gallbladder out years ago when they still cut you from one end to the other.. they simply suck it out your navel today.. you will have a easier recovery than from the band... take care

My gallbladder recovery was easier than my first lapband surgery but harder than my second lapband surgery. Everyone is different... Hopefully you'll breeze right through!

It is common with any weight loss program, I know I went through it many years ago. So I did not have to worry about it this time around.

I had my gallbladder out one year exactly from when I had my band placed. My surgery was similar to the band - 4 tiny incisions.

Why does the gallbladder give us problems after weight loss? Does the liver begin to dump stuff?

Lori, I found this website that talks about gallbladder problems and weight loss surgery. Supposedly it has to do with our liver releasing too much cholesterol during rapid weight loss. Plus, women have a greater risk :(

Hope it helps!

Thanks! My surgeon told me that I should wait awhile before going on cholesterol medicine as these numbers might be this "dumping" of cholesterol and not a true number . I knew that a gallbladder surgery would possibly be in my future when I got my band. My lapband surgeon is a general surgeon so he can do the gallbladder too. Thanks! This was helpful. :0)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
