Im REALLY getting nervous

Recommended Posts

I'm so scared. What if I wake up and regret this? I know it's going to be hard work and that its a tool for life, but I'm depressed because I feel like a loser that can't control my weight without surgery. I'm only 24 I have my whole life ahead of me so I need to get healthy.

I think now that I have a date I'm doing the last minute "what ifs" ???ž

Not so glum chum! I think a majority of people who have gone through this process felt the same way. I know I did. You have chosen a GREAT time of your life to do this, I wish it would have been an option for me at your age - I would have gone for it in an instant. The time is right because:

Your weight hasn't begun affecting your health.

Your body can recover from damage that was done from carrying extra weight.

You'll feel better.

You'll look better.

Your self esteem will skyrocket.

You'll have greater career opportunities.

When it's time to become a mommy, your baby will be healthier.

You'll be able to enjoy theme park rides.

You'll want to do things you were afraid to do before.

You will be more confident.

You will inspire others.

You'll like buying clothes much more.

Your clothes will be cuter.

You will have a sense of accomplishment.

You will feel more in control of your eating.

You will be motivated to try other new things.

You'll get to know some awesome new people...like me!

Is that enough? If not, I have more...we can do this all day girlfriend. :)

PT has lots of good points for you! If you have come this far into the process, you must have done the research and thought it out more then once.

Keep giving yourself the space to think, and be sure you want to take this step. You are young, and right now might be the opportune time for you, and then again that might not be true for you.

Think about your past attempts at losing weight. Have you been able to do it and keep the weight off?

If you were overweight as you got older would you be able to accept that and all the health ramifications that might come along with the extra pounds?

If you did the surgery today would you be able to live with this tool in your life and follow the guidelines and make it work for you as you got older?

Surgery is never an easy choice, no matter what our age. I can tell you that I have not regretted making this decision at all so far. I am still in the honeymoon phase with my band :)

Only you know what is right for you and your lifestyle, so don't let anyone talk you into or out of it.

Ask yourself some pointed and focused questions, make a list of pro's and con's and then see how you feel about it now, and then again in a few days.

Best of luck to you!

you will be fine. I waited until almost 62 to get hold of my out of control eating. Being younger is smarter. I almost didn't go into the operating room. I was on the bed and hooked up and getting ready to roll and I am very happy I went through with it.

I felt that getting the band was a cop out and a surgeon told me the band was not a cop out but was a helper. I did feel like a failure because of it but now I don't.

Good luck, take measurements and before photos, I never did and regret that.

I think it's only natural to start having last minute jitters. I think we all do it - I know I sure did. I was expecting way more pain when I woke up and much more difficulty post-op than I've had. I haven't regretted it for even one moment since I've done it. The only thing I regret is that I waited so dang long to have this surgery! Wish I'd done it years ago when I first heard about it then I could have been healthier so much sooner. Just follow your doctor's orders and take care of yourself and you'll do great. What everyone else has said is right on. And you're not a loser at all! I think it's extremely brave to take such a huge step to take control of the issue now. That is HUGE!! :)

I had all my panic moments over the weekend. Today, as I sip my Clear Liquids, I'm pretty calm about what is going to happen tomorrow. So, take a deep breath with me and let all the nerves go with the exhale. It's going to be great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
