Falling off the wagon

Anyone have any issues getting back to your diet after surgery (had to do a 6 month insurance required diet beforehand)? I feel like I'm eating everything in the house because I'm starving. Sugar is definitely a big problem for me, so we try not to buy any. I don't have my first fill until the 18th, but I don't want to gain all my weight back by then either! Any suggestions? I've tried filling up with Water, doing something besides eating, etc. I also eat my Protein first, and make sure my meals are mostly protein. I'm trying to be good :(

Unfortunately my dear you are in bandster hell. You just have to suck it up and use your willpower to stay focused until there is some restriction in your band and you are not so hungry all the time. It sounds like you are doing all the right things by drinking and finding other things to take your mind off the food so just know that you have to tough it out right now. Hang in there!

I eat Water ever I want but much smaller portions. If I feel like I'm "dieting" I fall off real quick! So if I want 5 tablespoons of mashed potatoes instead of 2, I have it. But I don't splurge every day. I have 3cc in my band! My first fill put me at 4cc and I was too tight and had to have it removed!!! Just because u have no fill doesn't matter! U can do it!

It's not easy, but it's doable. I have lost a lot of weight but mostly because I am dieting and counting every calorie and jogging and not so much because of the band. In fact, I knew I could lose without the band but I also knew from experience that I needed it to help me maintain which is when it will really kick in for me I believe.

Good luck and stay positive, you got this!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
