Day 1 of weight management program & already Frustrated

Recommended Posts

In order to have lapband Surgery my insurance is making me go through a 13 week wellness & weight managment program. It's going to end up costing me an additional $1250 for the food. The doctor(not my doc) I saw today was even trying to talk me out of the lapband surgery. She said most people are not successful with lapband. I Chose lapband because I have ms & I thought it was a safer surgery. I would love to here from someone with Ms that has been banded. Also if anyone had to complete a weight management program before surgery please feel free to get back to me.#Frustrated

I have MS and I also have the Lap Band.

Losing weight can't and won't cure MS, but for me it has drastically improved my mobility. I have gone from needing a cane just walk around my home to walking 2 miles a day unaided. I feel that losing weight has helped me better deal with the MS symptoms and getting my body as healthy as I can gives me a better chance to fight the disease in the future.

You can be as successful with the Lap Band as you're willing to be. It takes a total lifestyle change and work but it's very possible. I've lost 227 pounds in 19 months and I've never felt better in my adult life. Getting the band has truly given me my life back.

Best wishes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
