fee139 63 Posted September 9, 2013 Just curious, do any of you have your access port placed above your left breast? My surgeon said this was the most stable place to put it because bending and moving would not affect it and it reduces the risk of the port flipping.
PrettyThick1 1,860 Posted September 9, 2013 I've seen someone else post that theirs was in a similar place. I have to be honest, I wouldn't have wanted mine there. 2 ladyjordan and NaNa reacted to this
JOANNE M HOLL 388 Posted September 9, 2013 I think I would have liked mine there as I do a lot of gardening and bending I can feel mine move a lot. (Occasionally it gets sore in the bend at my waist.) But last year I had a breast removed because of cancer and my head would have had some awful thoughts about having the band placed and being the cause. Anyway I will say my son had a pacemaker & that is where it is, as it is an out-of-way location. Let us know sometime in the future how you like it. We all wish you the best of using our little tool, and a happy healthy future! 1 PrettyThick1 reacted to this
NaNa 878 Posted September 9, 2013 Just curious, do any of you have your access port placed above your left breast? My surgeon said this was the most stable place to put it because bending and moving would not affect it and it reduces the risk of the port flipping. Honestly to me, that sounds very painful, I would never want a port above my breast, hopefully it works out well for you. I've never had a port flip, or leak or any long term port issues. Both of my band surgeons placed my port near the same place right of my belly button and I am very happy they did. With my first band, my port was more noticeable after weight loss, but was never really painful, my second AP band I have a low profile port and I can't tell it's there, no pain or visible. I guess it depends on how well the port heals and how good your surgeon is with attaching the port to a muscle firmly and more importantly, LET IT HEAL post op. I never lifted anything over 10 pounds or bathe, (showered only) and never let anything hit my port area until about 2 months post op, I guess it worked for me because I've never had any port issues in 8 years with both bands. 2 PrettyThick1 and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted September 9, 2013 Wow I've never heard of a port there before. I have to be honest, I wouldn't want mine there at all. It sounds painful Since losing a lot of weight mine now sticks out noticeablely. It's easy to hide on my tummy but I fear it would next to impossible to hide if it were over my breast. 5 ☠carolinagirl☠, NaNa, ladyjordan and 2 others reacted to this
blondegal_ 1,028 Posted September 9, 2013 I've lost 80 lbs do far (with more to go) and my collar bones are already noticeable. And they were pretty prominent when I was young and skinny. That being said I just don't have much above my boobs and I think a port there would be very noticeable. As a woman looking forward to a new sexy shape a bulging port would be very discouraging to me personally. 4 PrettyThick1, ☠carolinagirl☠, NaNa and 1 other reacted to this

You are like me that would terrify me to have a port in my shoulder area since I am very thin at the top and my bones stick out and I am sure this would be very noticeable on me. At least if the port sticks on in the lower abdomen, you can hide it with clothes. 2 PrettyThick1 and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

My surgeon said this was the most stable place to put it because bending and moving would not affect it and it reduces the risk of the port flipping. Also if you are not happy with where it is, you can always get your port placed lower and/ a low profile port. If your surgeon does not do this, you can find another surgeon who will. 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

I swear I have no fat above my actual breasts whatsover. If my port was up there, it would stick out huge by now. 2 PrettyThick1 and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

fee139 63 Posted September 9, 2013 As crazy as this seems, I cannot feel the port nor can I see it, so on Wednesday I'm gonna get the doc to show me exactly what he did. I have two friends that this surgeon did their's and I couldn't see their ports either. 1 PrettyThick1 reacted to this
Jean McMillan 2,973 Posted September 9, 2013 I've heard of ports located under the left breast, but not above it. Even when I was obese, I didn't have a lot of extra flesh in the neighborhood of my chest, and 114 lbs later, even a low-profile port in that location would make me look like a circus freak. My part time job is doing bra fits at JCPenney and I've encountered quite a few women with chemo ports in that general vicinity. They were very obvious (and of course, life-saving) and uncomfortable for those women. But...avoiding port flips, and (perhaps) easier access for fills is a good thing. I look forward to hearing what else your surgeon has to say about it. 3 newlife828, ☠carolinagirl☠ and Debbie3sons reacted to this
Debbie3sons 1,936 Posted September 9, 2013 Mine is just above my belly button when I lay down it goes just under y faint scar and when I stand it is just above and I can feel it at certain ties when I bend but it doesn't bother me and I show the surgeon where to feel when he goes to give me a fill and he laughs each time cause I can feel it and he just searches to make sure he gets it right the first time but I like where mine is cause my bra line is just above and if I eat to much I get a bad left shoulder pain snd I a in pain for about 15 min and I don\t like that. southernqt 236 Posted September 9, 2013 My port is above my left Brest and I wouldn't have it any other way. I had my surgery in April of this year an it hasn't bothered me at all. He told me it's a better place to have it because there isn't a lot of activity goin on right there unlike your stomach where you bend and twist and turn. Also my two cousins have it the same spot above the Brest. 1 fee139 reacted to this
