Post 1st Fill, still hungry + no wt loss

Recommended Posts

So my surgery date was 8/15, I got 1.3cc during surgery, got my first fill last Tues...3cc so that brings me to a grand total of 4.3cc in my band. Not sure which band size I have. Worked out once last week, my weight has not budged for weeks, and I'm like !!!!!HUNGRY!!!!! I'm feeling like how I was feeling pre-band, always hungry. I'm feeling a little depressed, I can't even lie. My next fill is in about 3 weeks. (Sigh) I know I'm supposed to be watching what I eat but it's hard when I feel like I want to eat everything in sight. I'm feeling a little down now :-(

You don't have to wait until you're scheduled for your next fill, you can call and let the provider know that the one you got was not enough and you need a bit more. I had to do that and my surgeon didn't hesitate to get me back in. They'd rather do that than for you to stop progressing...or even worse, start gaining weight again.

that's a normal thing in the beginning... they call this part of the surgery lap band hell because you've had the surgery and your expecting it to work right away and it doesn't work like that unfortunately... you will eventually catch up on your fills and it will do wonders... I agree that you can call the surgeon and ask for a fill but it will depend on the surgeon this is your healing time and that's what they may tell you! and as hard as it is and believe me I know how hard it is I def cheated during that time after surgery and im sure there are many of us out there who did but the only thing you can do is try your hardest to stay on track with you diet!

Wow, I thought I had to wait as well. My last fill was August 5th and because I was traveling I was given a fill appointment of Sept. 19th. I'm 8 months post op and still have not hit the green zone. I usually go to my doctor every 4 weeks so I'm anxious to get my next fill. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive to my surgeon's office so I just can't drop everything and go for a same day appointment with my surgeon. I'm patiently waiting until the 19th for my fill but have to admit I do get hungry but I am keeping my calories under control and hopefully my next fill will be the one that will be my sweet spot.

As far as I'm aware you have too wait two weeks between fills to allow time for any swelling (?) To go down and for you to get used to the last top up...maybe worth asking though although I'm sure each doc has their own thoughts :-)

I will call my surgeon this week as I didn't have a chance to do so today and see what he says

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
