Hi,

This is my first time on this forum and unfortunately i decided to come on because of the difficulties i am having with my still bad eating habits that are sabotaging my weight loss. i had my surgery done 5 months ago and have lost 20kg but should have lost more in that time. I have lost nothing in the last 7 weeks due to my eating habits. Is their someone else that has found they have drifted back into old habits as those foods go down very easily thankyou. What do i need to do to remotivate myself??? i am feeling as if it was all a waste of time

Hi Pauline,

You don't say whether you feel restriction or if you think you need a fill. Where are you with your restriction? It's very easy to "drift" into old habits if you don't feel the effects of the band; you're just dieting at that point.

Call your doctor and schedule a fill if you need one! That all by itself is usually a great remotivator. When you get your fill you'll have the restriction you need that will make you full on less food and make it much easier to regulate your habits.

Good luck and let us know how you're doing!!

Hey Pauline, WELCOME to LBT.

I agree with Alex. Try giving your surgeon a chance. Sometimes just making the special trip to see him will re-motivate you. Getting with other bandsters and hearing their eating tips and sharing their stories can also help. Do you have a local live support group that you can attend? You may want to call your surgeon and ask if they have one in your area.

((hugs)) I know its hard, but you CAN do it!

Thanks for the replies,

I have had 3 fills, the first one at 6 weeks after op, the second a double fill and the third a normal fill. My old eating habits do not relate to feeling hungry they relate to the grey matter between my ears which, has me eating cake, chocolate etc as it goes down easlily and once i start can't stop. I have told my Doctor and the response is that i need to find altrenative foods and try harded to control these old habits. I asked for no new fill last visit as there are to many solid foods I cannot eat now so thought another fill would make eating more difficult.

Thanks for your reply Jenny,

I guess I had an expectation that the banding would not allow me to eat the foods that I find I can now eat very well. I cannot eat much solid good food as it gets stuck so the bad food has become the main food. Everytime i eat biscuits or chocolate i go through the same guilt i did before i had the banding done. I have a friend that is having this done in NSW on monday and there is a team of professionals available to her including a life coach, in WA this is not the same and you are basically on your own.

At the present time i am not weighing myself at all and just doing my best when I can. Good luck to you also and I hope you have a gret weekend or week depending on when you read this message.

Pauline

hello pauline the surgery i go to also has every back up you could think of thought i had it mastered but still in times of stress and mood swings i turn to the comfort foods that go down so easy maybe it's a case of not being able to teach a dog new tricks but no i will get it slowly but surely,

maybe you could ask your specialist if something could be set up at his practice maybe if you have some time you could try cos it's really great to have the support how about trying the aussie lapband site [ozband] i know there is at least a couple of people from w a maybe you could meet up have a good day ...jenny

Hi this is my first time on this website. Have been to a new specialist today he was great better than the original who put in the lap band in january 2005. Learn't more from him in a few minutes than the last specialist in 5 months. Had been putting on weight for over a year i realised if i didn't go to the specialist i would be back to where i started. As it is i put on 9 kilos over a year. Worst of all i started to feel tired, depressed and grumpy all over again. We need to keep in site why we originally had the lap band procedure in the first place. I put of going to the specialist because i was embarrased that i had fallen back to my old ways. I originally wanted to loose weight for my health and to be able to grow old and not die of a heart attack or any other complication from eating myself to death. We all need to keep our goals in mind and support each other. Have a good week. Good luck to everyone.

Dont give up. Remember your original reason for having the operation. Don't loose sight of that. We are all working towards a common goal of being healthy and happy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
