It's the little things

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a positive experience. I had my first big outing yesterday since being banded on 8/7/13. Me, my husband, my best friend, and her husband went to a LSU (Louisiana State University) game. I was pretty nervous about it because its typically a long day, lots of walking, lots of drinking, and lots of eating (this is South Louisiana people!) So many questions went through my mind: what am I going to eat, will I be able to keep up with all the miles we will have to walk, how will I deal with everyone around me drinking, what if I start feeling bad, etc.

I am happy to report that everything went great! My 2 mile a day walks have really paid off and I was able to drink a Protein shake for Breakfast and lunch and for supper I ate the toppings off of a personal pan pizza (stadium food). For 4th meal I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich from a fast food restaurant and only ate the grilled chicken. I was able to resist the ice cold beer and drank tons of Water.

When walking back to the car after the game I had so much energy. I actually wanted to power walk! Can you believe that?!

I've come a long way in the last month. I really struggled with the "I just want to be a normal person again". I'm learning my "new normal" and that I can still incorporate elements of my old life into my new way of living. So for those of you who were recently banded, keep your heads up, and know that it will get better. Thanks for reading :)

That is such a positive story. Its so important to be able to go and do social things with friend without feeling a freak. I too have been able to go out and socialise with friends and felt a bit anxious at first, but was able to chose baked potato and tuna, and enjoyed being out so much and can't wait to do it again!

Onwards and upwards and looking forward to all of those social events :D

Yes. That word normal again. Whatever that is to each of us. Just didn't want to continue to fight xxl for me. Wanted to be comfortable no matter what the circumstance. Some people want size 6. Some of us are happy at size 12. Depends what your view if normal is! Good luck

I'm glad to hear you were successful at a game. I'm going to an Ohio State (OSU) game soon and I'm petrified; OSU games typically involve a lot of drinking and eating. I had planned on having a Protein Shake for breakfast, freezing one, that would be thawed out by lunch, then I figured I would have something as light as I could get for dinner. I haven't missed much since my banding, but I'm going ot miss having a beer at the game. I won't have one, but I know that I'll miss it and I'm dealing with that before we get there. I'm also going to be doing a lot of walking and I'm excited to not feel so packed into the seats now that I've lost some serious weight. LOL

Thank you so much for sharing. I remember all my "firsts" after being banded and how scary it was, but once you rock it like you did it makes this journey seem much more doable.

Congrats =)

A proper outing -- congratulations. Geesh, wait 'til next year you'll be running up and down the bleachers!

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

      Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

        Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
