I'm getting ready to have my 1st fill post-op.

Recommended Posts

I was liquids x1 day then mushies x1 then no restrictions. I didnt get much restriction from the 1st and will hopefully get more after my 2nd on the 23rd. Just take it easy and chew well and take small bites. You may not feel restriction for 3 to 4 days from what I've read and as I said, I didnt feel any. Dont let it get you down if you dont, just remember its baby steps for it to be successful.

I got my first fill this week (4 ccs) and haven't had any issues. I've played it pretty safe though. The "wildest" thing I tried was pizza. I toasted it before eating it and it went down fine. I couldn't even finish a slice, where before surgery I'd eat 3 or 4. No crust though.

Please share what you could and couldn't eat after your first fill.

I had to do 2 days liquids and 2 days purees finely on regular food and I go in for another fill in 2 weeks.

What are fills?

As you probably know, your band is like an inner tube wrapped around the top part of your stomach with a port. When it is placed usually it will have just a little fluids in it it placed at surgery. After surgery you will visit your doctor and the dr or nurse will likely inject more Fluid in the port therefore tightening the band around your stomach. This may take several visits to gradually give you the results the band is intended for.

Have you already had your surgery or are you still in the research phase?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
