Overly Full or Swollen

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 03/29/13. I received my 4th fill on Tues. Until then, I didn't feel much restriction, not consistently anyway. Meaning, one day a small portion would satisfy me, but the next day, the same portion size did NOTHING for me. With the fill I got Tues., I was on Protein Shakes the entire day. I tolerated them just fine. All day yesterday, I ate mushy foods. I had half a cup of applesauce, half a cup of cottage cheese...tolerated those fine as well. This a.m., I had a small mug of hot Water with lemon. After about 45 minutes, I tried to eat scrambled egg whites with cheese. I took small bites and chewed well but was OVERSTUFFED after about 1/4 a cup!!! I've eaten with the band until I felt satisfied before, but this is a different feeling. My tummy feels like an overfilled helium balloon!!! I'm wondering if I'm swollen from the fill or is this what a 'proper' fill should feel like. With the 3 previous fills, after 2 days, I could still almost eat 'normal' amounts of food.< /p>

Also, I ate the 1/4 cup of eggs in about 5 minutes. Maybe that was too fast??? Like I stated before, I haven't felt much restriction so far, so prior to this fill, I could eat my entire meal in 15 minutes.

Something seems to change with every fill I get. It could be that you cannot tolerate eggs with this one; I couldn't eat them after my second fill, no matter how they were prepared.

Hi Armonet,

Since you did not describe any adverse symptoms (like GERD, regurgitation, PBing or sliming) it sounds like you are experiencing green.

Now this could be because:

1) you were recently filled and thus are at optimal restriction with the additional inflammation. So keep vigilent and observe if this restriction is maintained

2) what use to go down before the fill may not after the fill. Certain foods (eggs is one of them) can be problematic for some bandsters. Not to infer you are having problems with eggs, rather, eggs may fill you right up because it is so dense. So try a new food for your next meal and compare the feeling.

3) When you get adequate restriction you may also start to experience the fluctuating restriction we frequently talk about. Mornings are especially tight for some but the band relaxes as the day progresses. So focus on that as well and see it's the morning band phenomenon.

You sound like you are at the right place. With time, don't be disappointed to feel the restriction fade over the course of weeks in which it's time for another fill. But this is what green is hon. Fill quickly without adverse symptoms. Let's hope you are satiated for 3-4 hrs at a time, another thing to focus on. Ride this out for a week and let's hope it stays. Let us know how it goes :)

If you ate 1/4 eggs in 5 minutes you are differently not too tight, congrats on getting restriction.

Most people who post here about being too tight, can't even get down a Protein shake in 20 minutes.

Seems like you hit the green! Happy losing. :)

aubrey222, eggs have been one of my 'go to' meals since they're quick, easy and high in protein! I'm going to try a boiled egg. Hopefully, I won't get that uncomfortable feeling.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
