Today I take my letter of Medical Necessity to my PCP

Recommended Posts

Today at 1:30PM I take my later of medical necessity to my primary care physician. He really likes Eatern Medicine so I hope he signs sure me anyway. Just send positive thoughts my way that he will sign (I am pretty sure that he will since he knows my struggle is important). Also send positive thoughts that he will provide me with the documentation of my past 6 months of attempted weight loss that I have done with him. I really need all of my documentation today since I work Tomorrow (Friday) & Mon and Tues followed by my appointment with the insurance coordinator at the Surgeons office on Weds.

Thinking of you! Sounds like you have all your ducks lined up. Great that you are a nurse and have that medical background. Good luck today -- keep us posted.

Usually my BP is near perfect even with my HIGH BMI. HOWEVER my BP was high today I was so nervous to ask my PCP to sign my paperwork......happy surprise (even though not really a surprise) he signed the letter of medical necessity and filled out a SOAP note/Progress note regarding my lady 6 months of weight loss attempts. I am gonna attach the report from my food logs for the last 6 months as well ( it shows average calories in for each week, BMR cal burned and calories burned by my activity). I am so excited that I might just fax in ahead of my appt next week. So all thats left is my consultation body, dietician visit and psych eval. Then wait for insurance to approve. This is getting real to me at this point.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
