Going shopping for Post-op

Recommended Posts

I need to do my final shopping before surgery. :biggrin1:

What did you stock up on so you'd be prepared for when you come home?

I noticed some brands of popsicles say sugar free and some say No sugar added....which ones should I buy? Did you all drink apple and grape juice? It's on my doctors list but I was surprised. Isn't there too much natural sugar in them?

Any SF brands of puddings better than others? I don't like Yogurt..(yucky after taste) so any suggestions for a substitute?

Now that it's almost here I am getting a little nervous about what to put in my new bander tummy during those first three weeks of fluids.

:hungry:

Thank you for replying. I think it's so close that I am suddenly worried I'll get some and have the wrong things...LOL!

I am really impressed that you have almost lost all your weight in a year. Do you ride your own Harley now?

I am a little nervous :phanvan about keeping in control after my op. i was wondering if that what your in fear of:eek: . Obviously it taken us a long time to put this weight on with over eatting and our stomack will shrinks with the band???. :hungry:

I not sure if this helps, but my psychologist said we need to know our motivation behind eatting, whether its emotional or due to real hungry. Appparently Water is excellent for filling you up people who experience hungry quickly after food may be dehydrated and just require water.:think

Best wishes

I never liked yogurt either - the texture made me gag (the same problem with pudding) and the gross aftertaste - yuk! Since I am determined to eat healthy food and I know yogurt is good for me, I made a serious effort to like it. I found that Yoplait custard style in almost any flavor is really, really good with no aftertaste. I find myself eating one at least four times a week for a nice snack and I really like it.

I was told that sugar free is always the better choice than "no sugar added" so that's what I stick to.

I had "no sugar added" juice though because I couldn't find any sugar free juice. I drank A LOT of juice the first few days.

I also bought sugar free hot cocoa. The warm liquid felt good to my sore tummy.

You sound like you are on the right track. One word of caution...I personally had purchased WAY, WAY more stuff than I actually used. I ended up giving away a lot of food because I just wasn't hungry for the first two weeks. I'd stock up for a few days just so you don't have to go shopping right after surgery but don't worry about really stocking your pantry until you see how your appetite is during your immediate recovery. GOOD LUCK!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
